So as @Kosmik said, their offer does bring with it challenges in terms of liability etc etc...

But to throw transformation into the mix is just bollocks. Transformation needs to be suspended at Eskom until such time as the situation has improved significantly.

Eskom and everything in this country has turned into one big ****ing joke. There is no hope left because hope has also left the country

My dad was one of those "old whites" - he was involved in building the boilers at 4 of the country's power stations. They had less technology, hardly any CAD - they relied on hand drawings and they built those things in less time its taken Eskom to repair them.

Our "empowerment" laws directly resulted in putting people into positions they knew nothing about, and now the chickens have come home to roost.
I would also like to add here - my dad's generation wasn't a case of whites only. He has told me he could name at least 5 black people who worked with him through the years who knew those boilers well, understood them, worked properly and could design and fix them in their sleep. But they're probably also approaching 70/80yrs old now and I imagine there's probably 0 interest in hiring them either. Actually a lot of them lost their jobs because as tenders went out they were last on the hiring list.

De Ruyter and Oberholzer know that bringing retirees back would be akin to pissing on the ANC's racist policy and laws. They also know that there is the potential for huge friction between current appointees and the retirees, which will be exploited by the unions and political parties such as the EFF.

It's checkmate, I am afraid, no solution for it. The taxpayer and consumers will just have to keep on stuffing the greedy mouths of incompetent Eskom employees and management, whilst they observe Eskom's fleet slowly sinking into the abyss, for one purpose: to satisfy the ideals of The Great Liberation Movement.

“But working without compensation creates a whole range of problems in terms of liability, accountability, and being engaged and subject themselves to discipline as it may be required,” he stated.

“One’s got to be quite careful in navigating some of these offers.”
There's currently no liability, accountability and discipline with the currently paid workforce.

I have an indian friend on the water infrastructure side of things. Really clever guy.

Fascinating to hear him recount some of the otherworldly skills some of these old ballies had when he was being trained by them. We're talking guys who identify complex issues that would take a legion of graduates months to figure out, and they do it using experience and senses like touch and hearing.

Bringing back the very people you made it your political objective to move out (Eskom is arguably the ANC's flagship ''project'' when it comes to racist policy implementation BEE and transformation) is effectively admitting that your policies have failed.

No chance the ANC does this, because they know what is best for South Africa and everything they do is in the best interests of the country.

Experience trumps qualifications. I mean I often have some of the newer guys ask how I know things and it's like I just do. I can listen to how the tape library moves, I can walk into my server room and just know something isn't right.
