I equate ESKOM to a house of cards. Once it starts collapsing nothing can stop it.
 
Commenting while I still have power - unfortunately living in a complex I cannot have a diesel generator grunting and puffing in my living room (hmm, well I should ask). The situation is unacceptable and the main reason I will be voting.
 
It's actually really, really REALLY simple. Here goes:

This is not fixable without pain. And there is going to be a lot of pain. If there is not a lot of pain, it will not be fixed. What do I mean by pain? Start treating the fiscus with respect. Respect the money, and put it to productive use, instead of using it as a means to an ideological end. "Ideology uber all" will need to end. That means grants will need to be reigned in, excessive salary increases will need to end, corruption will need to end. Basically, this GrEaT sOcIaL ExPeRiMeNt will need to end.

Can this be done? My gut feel says "no", the ANC will not be willing to take the pain. So the promises will get bigger, Jan will be blamed more, expect more BEE, expect more taxes in the form of NHI and social security, pension reform, increased PIT and corporate taxes. And all these funds to then be squandered and stolen.

Basically, expect the circling of the drain to continue but slowly pick up pace. I don't expect Zimbabwe, I think Angola is more apt, without the internal wars. Corrupt to the core, an enriched few, the majority neglected to fend for themselves, a small economy just to keep food in some bellies, politics and state employment the biggest business in town.

(holy crud, it's not actually "simple" at all, is it! :P )

Guess too many South Africans are moving to Joburg aka. domestic migration. Big surprise that the infrastructure is being pushed to its limits and beyond when people leave poverty behind and can finally afford a washing machine, an electric stove or even *gasp* a TV.
 
Tax money is collected. Tax money is stolen. Things fall apart. Give us more money, we have no budget.

Cynical mindset? You know when you have excess demand for something, you decide to... supply for it? And that you can forecast future demand? And that people pay taxes for government to forecast and prepare for future demand? Are you a cadre supplier for Eskom or something? How can you be this daft?

Sounds to me like someone would rather whine and complain about things rather than try to be part of a solution. Finger pointing and calling people names is definitely easier than applying yourself.

Hang on so let me get this straight. Your idea is that the best course of action is to plunge millions of South Africans into extreme poverty who are at the bottom end of society so that some money gets distributed to invest into some electricity infrastructure so that you aren’t inconvenienced by load shedding? That’s your plan? Sounds like a dangerous idea to me…it’s as if you’re actually trying to provoke a civil conflict of some kind. Sheesh
