You get things that are so worn out that a full replacement is needed, just the nature of being at the end of the life cycle.

I understand that there is a ton of anger behind the thought of Eskom, but I want to understand exactly what everyone understands "needs to be done" actually means. Or we can continue just being emotional dicks about it.
 
All of corporate South Africa, yes, those fat cat do-gooders who pocket obscene bonuses every year, should be collectively aiming at generating their own electricity immediately. There should be no government interference in this process because if there is then I'm afraid that there will be no option but to give those government retards the finger and just do it anyway.

So you replace a part instead of building a whole new car. Also, make sure you get a better driver who ruined the first part.

we don't need to know what is "needs to be done", we only need to know when we won't have any blackout in the future. we paid taxes, we paid the electricity, that is the part we have to do, the rest, that is the government's responsibility to delivery the services to their citizens.

Yeah, but 10+ years of loadshedding with weekly repairs and maintenance and billions spent on tenders and parts, at this point everything should be brand new and yet *glares at constant breakdowns of medupi*. Either repair teams are useless, or tender replacement parts are junk, either way, need investigations, doing maintenance and 6 hours later its broken down is a problem, and 'mah old' is just the go to excuse

Edit: Just to add, I wouldn't put deliberate sabotage out of reach either... be it people being paid to **** **** up to get rid of managers etc so their prefered replacements are in places, tenderers, political(eg, kinda close to elections for **** to be going tits up yes?) etc

It's ongoing. The problem is the emergency programme for 2GW (the programme including the power ships) is held up in court cases by a losing bidder and the government letting the IPPs financial closing dates slip

There is also a published programme for another 12GW to be online at various stages over the next few years. We are due announcements from the DRME on 5 rounds of bidding for various types of generation over the next 6 months, but it's behind schedule already as the first date which was for last month release, has, surprise surprise, not been met.

I work closely with this stuff and I completely agree with the article, it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Government needs to seriously pull the finger out of their arses and show some real balls to the wall urgency.
 
The voters are going to be happy, when their KZN TV's don't work, because there is no more "electricity" to steal, and they have to use candles for light.

ANC have yet to get that far

Another day, another click baity article by some ‘expert’ that used to work for Eskom many years ago. Yawn.

Maybe all so-called Eskom experts who keep recycling their doom and gloom Eskom visions should start their own tabloid…
