The system is part of the power utility’s demand-side management initiatives and focuses on customers with smart meters installed in their homes.

This is what it is all about. Loadlimiting, loadshedding all the same k@k. Once the meters are installed everyone is in even bigger k@k. Other than the Fourways residents, I do not trust this government with this at all.

Load-shedding is not a road or town that you can just rename and carry on with.

Load-shedding is a act that no matter what you call it still means you fvcked it up and cannot produce the needed service.

anc stop trying to pull the wool over the morons eyes.

They're taking the pig and putting lipstick and make-up on it and trying to sell it as a dressed up sheep.

once this is done, then they'll barely be able to supply 10A and we'll be penalized for going over 5.... wait for it.

What they're basically saying is no house in ZA should go over 10A (apart from Govt and cadres).

and it plans to roll out the initiative to every province by February 2024.

Gonna be a busy week...

There is some confusion relating to how the system works, with Eskom saying only standalone houses and those in larger estates where each property has its own designated external Eskom meter and individual account are eligible for load-limiting.

However, I live in a complex with one meter and a single Eskom account supplying 425 units, and I haven’t experienced load-shedding since the pilot launched, other than when Eskom’s rotational power cuts exceed Stage 4.

We asked Eskom how this was possible, but it didn’t answer the questions directly and reiterated that only households with smart meters were eligible.

Aunt's complex is the same, they just don't get turned off ever.

They have to leave the substation on so if you're in the area but don't have one of these meters you just don't get switched off. Which because in my aunt's case they have a private metering firm contracted means Eskom can't change their meters like they did in the houses around the estate.

"“An hour before the start of load-shedding, the system will prompt customers to reduce their consumption to 10 Amps by sending a message to their customer interface unit (CIU) and cellphone,” said Eskom.

“The system will provide the customer with four opportunities to reduce their consumption, and thereafter, if the load has not been reduced, the meter will automatically switch off the electricity supply for the duration of the load-shedding period."

So when you get the message you run around the house making sure nothing is on? No geyser tried to work, no pool pump timer decided to come on... lol. What madness is this.

Yes, this is an utter k*k system. They will not be putting any meter in my place. And, if they do, I will have it bypassed.

So you'd prefer to have 0amp vs 10amps?? 10amps is still 2400w of things you can still use, that's still quite a bit.

So by next month the entire country is going to have load limiting? This is excellent news, we can very easily sit through load limiting for a few hours only consuming under 500 Watts continous usage.

Run around the house?? Go to db, flick the geyser switch, the pool switch and boom they are off.
But sure you can just not have any power if you so wish.

So you'll be shed when your neighbors have power

10amps is 2400w, plus you'll only be limited in your load shedding session. So instead of 0amps you'll have 10amps

The meter is put where the existing Eskom meter is - It's outside your property in a locked box.

Some meters are on properties, also the smart meter you get another little box that links to it.

I've always suspected their plan was to make this permanent and score some nice gravy upfront on the meters. Then at the end claim they've solved load shedding and we should all be grateful.

If only it is going to stay like that for 2 hours , in a couple of years that will be 24/7
Yes cause load shedding is 24/7 now? Load limiting will occur on stages 1 to 4 during your scheduled load shedding window, if you do not limit to the 10amps they switch you off. Also 10amps is still 2400w which is actually quite a bit still.
