Eskom load-shedding kicks in

everything would be cheaper at the lowest payment level if everyone made an effort to pay instead of refusing to pay at all. part of the reason the cost of electricity goes through the roof for those few who do pay is because they are subsidising all those who don't pay. I don't mind some of my payment subsidising those who genuinely can't pay but I do mind subsidising those who could pay something and who won't, because reasons.

The number of people who could pay, but don't, is very, very tiny compared to the number of people who can't afford to pay any longer. Eskom's price hikes are funded by greed and a need to plaster over the holes in their budget, that's it. Load shedding was a scam, the turbines and diesel purchases were a scam, "wet coal" was a scam, Tegeta Mines was a scam and a ponzi scheme.

The only part of the problem not done intentionally to remove money from the system is the utterly retarded policies the ANC had in place internally to resist the building of new power stations and taking on additional debt to finance new, more efficient stations, and to use SOEs as a vehicle to deliver jobs but with no long-term plans of how the staff increases would affect profitability.

Everyone in Soweto could start paying for their power tomorrow, all illegal connections could be reversed and prepaid meters install, banks could set up prepaid features via USSD or their apps, and municipalities could lower their cut of the profits for an entire year - heck, even five years. It won't matter. Eskom's finances are in the crapper, they're totally unprepared for IPPs and renewable energies to take over supplementing baseload, and they're unwilling to cut down on the number of people they hire at the lower levels because unions will retaliate and they'll end up losing votes.

Yes to everything, but there was a point (or many points) in the last 20 years where this could have been prevented. It wasn't.

I can't believe that every single person in the ANC is so monumentally self-absorbed and/or stupid that they can't see that their policies are failing epically, yet no-one does anything. Do they just blindly hope it won't go to hell in a handbasket?

Almost certainly the root cause for ANC problems is:
1) When can I go home today
2) How can I get more money
3) Do something so it looks like I'm working until #1
4) How can I get hired into a position to realize #2 regardless of my ability to deliver in the position.

This government is fundamentally driven by the attitude that they are paid to show up and spend 8 hours of which 1 hour is a lunch break.
Productivity and outcomes aren't measured for increases or bonuses, they are simply given de-facto.
Additionally the government loves hiring on potential and have no standards when it comes to hiring.

Overall they have low quality people.

And before I get called a racist: I don't believe that you need to drop standards to hire for AA.
At this point when they hire someone they probably can't tell if this person is capable or a dud because they themselves are 90% duds.

Why haven't more people considered going solar at home? It's green and isn't effected by load shedding. I think people need to start taking things into their own hands going forward.

I would gladly invest 130k if I felt RSA was worth it at this stage. But I don't.

To the extreme... solar isn't going to help you much when the grid actually collapses.

A "let them eat cake" post if I've ever seen one.

Yes It's all my fault...I've been wasting all my money on petrol, school fees, groceries and my bond etc.

I'm so stupid....

While the old racists definitely did run the country better, it's was very far from fully functioning for everyone. Function fully for some might be more accurate.
And even then there was a lot of mismanagement, stuffing government departments and state owned companies with otherwise unemployable white people and general squandering of taxpayers' money.

According to most here they were perfect, so that cannot be possible.

And this is why we are prohibited from criticizing today's government.

Why do you say they were unemployable? Didn't whites receive the best education in apartheid?
