Eskom strike could mean massive blackouts

Parliament has warned that a strike at Eskom could have catastrophic effects for the country, and urged all parties to work together to avoid this from happening. This is according to a report in the Sunday Independent newspaper.

Hehehehe, it just gets better and betterer.

Yip, well on the road to nowhere.

If anyone still needs evidence that the unions don't give a fck about the future of the country, here it is.

If anyone still needs evidence that the unions will ultimately be responsible for the collapse of this country, here it is.

No surprise here. When the execs are getting massive bonuses while the average worker slaves away to keep the lights on

Don't be fooled, they all getting salaries and bonuses for doing nothing. I'd say very few are actually deserving of their salaries(probably only 20% actually work for their money). This is just a 'he got more than me' thing.

Agreed. Eskom top management should be charged with treason as a matter of course.

Oh well to coin a phrase “ Darkest Africa” might be a possible reality. Putting PV collectors on my roof is becoming more lucrative as time goes on. It was quite interesting driving down Ladies Mile here in Bergvliet , Cape Town during Load Shedding. It was dark except for the Spur which was lit up like a Christmas Tree, and also the Engin Garage. Yip it was business as usual. :D

ESKOM is just one big pyramid scheme where the people at the top get all the money where us mere mortals at the bottom just suffer.

Shoulda kept those wit ous then .....

The ''we demand'' workers seem to be calling the shots at Eksdom.

So a strike by eskom workers could have catastrophic effects, but the racist firing of staff won't have any effect?

People should just start setting up mobile generators that run off Carling Black Label.

They'll strike and get their demands. There isn't much alternative to caving in here...they've got the country by the balls and know it, Eskom senior leadership is suspended and gov is...well just being itself as per usual.

And honestly thats par for the course...we all know any major SA project will be late due to strikes. Thats the way it is.

Things like the credit downgrade and the distinct feeling that absolutely nobody is in control let alone on top of the overall electricity situation (both gov and eskom) is far more troublesome.

When you've got a monopoly producer (Eskom), then it's the best thing to do -- be a militant union. IE trump 'the mans' monopoly with your own organised monopoly on labour.

Yet another reason we need competition in generation rather than Eskom's monopoly-- that way, if one company strikes and their power gets switched off, you've got options.
When SAA go on strike, I'll fly Virgin/BA
When SAPO goes on strike, I'll use a courier

If Rainbow chickens goes on stirke, I'll buy Checkers own...
If all the chicken farms go on strike, I'll eat beef
If all the livestock farmers go on strike, I'll earn corn
If all the farmers go on strike, I'll eat tinned food for while and then grow my own...

When Eskom goes on strike... we all just sit in the dark.

Basically anything important needs competition and alternatives, not monopolies

FYI - was going to say if Telkom, Cell-C or Vodacom went on strike... then I realised I wouldn't notice the difference ;)
