Eskom total power blackout warning

You have to be ****ting me this has to be fear mongering in order to boost electricity prices.
Although I suspect they are running the existing infrastructure into the ground and it is likely to all colapse at some point.

Boost prices, and remove resistance to the trillion rand russia/zuma nuclear deal

This is pure fear mongering to make us feel like Eskom is doing us a favour!

Stage 4 load shedding allows for over 3,000MW of the national electricity load to be shed.
But Stage 3 allows for up to 4000MW of blackouts? So is Stage 4 better than Stage 3? Or perhaps we can be at both stage 3 & 4 at the same time somewhat like Schroedinger's cat?

Pretty sure someone is paying these okes to release announcements intentionally aimed at max confusion...this level of chaos seems difficult to achieve without careful planning...

Strikes me more as a desperate attempt to push down energy usage.

Eskom is going to crater financially anyway based on diesel usage alone so at this stage I doubt they are worried about the $$$.

wow - as per the vid Andrew sounds like he needs a good couple of hours of sleep.

I think we are going to see much more loadshedding in the coming months.

If you run something at it's max all the time something is going to break. Not to mention the tons of money they are spending on diesel and the tons of money they are spending for trucks to run coal to majuba power station.

Should Eskom not have enough money to pay those suppliers for any reason means more loadshedding at prolonged periods. It is a crisis despite the minister saying that it is not.

Andrew Etzinger: "Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for this"

If he didn't get his massive salary on a regular basis, I guess he would also be frustrated, same as we are. This interview smacks of a company that forgot they have to deliver this service to South Africa, first and foremost, before any other country gets the privilege to electricity supply. As a private company they would have been forced into submission by people withholding their payment but we don't have that option, now do we?

The scary thing is that if the entire power grid does fail, it will take weeks to synchronise the power grid again. But don't worry, we will run out of water in about 4 days once there is no power to pump it.

Load shedding sucks! /me never takes electricity for granted ever again...

This is just the begin - there is not enough electricity for everyone! Dark Country here we come :)

So I've seen these photo's circulating on Facebook, but most people say they are from a couple of years ago. Eskom says a unit is still out of action from an incident in March, so I wonder how similar the damage is?

Yes yet you still see people not giving a f about wasting electricity. Like municipality sending out electrician's to switch off subburbs for loadshedding but can't freaking fix street lights burning during the day. Companies blasting the aircon on full speed when it is not so hot and many other things.

I get angry cause there is not enough for everyone yet so many people wasting the little we have.

Do you honestly believe Andrew loves his job. Large salary is more a way if retention and keeping him their. Unless he is a sadist and loves playing the Grim Reaper

As an E&E engineer, what he is saying is the unfortunate and harsh truth. Loadshedding is there to protect the grid from certain total collapse. So while I hate it as much as you do, they are doing the right thing considering the circumstances. As for nuclear, stop this bull**** and support nuclear power, we have great locations to build plants and it will probably be with the French (Koeberg), with whom we also have an agreement.

Thats the thing I have an issue with.

I'm cool with nuclear...but SA gov screwed it up in usually dodgy tender style...

First thing we hear...out of the blue a deal has been signed with the Russians.

Massive uproar...only then do they sign deals with USA, France & same other countries. I can't help but feel that its all one big smoke screen attempt to cover up the fact that we just had a multi billion rand deal that didn't come *close* to a proper competitive tender process.

You say the French are going to get it? I doubt it given that they were included as an after-thought only after significant public outcry...
