Eskom total power blackout warning

Eskom is the only company in South Africa that is actively discouraging customers from buying its product. No wonder they can't manage their finances.

I get you but I also find it hard to believe that nearly 50 percent of their generation capacity is offline
 
Eskom has to use energy to pump water back up in their pump-storage systems. So they have to shed domestic load and use the electrons to push water uphill, ready for the peak. It's a tough choice, but the right one in the circumstances.
 
Stop giving free power to people over our boarder. Cut them all off or make them pay. Why must SA Suffer if others do not!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, these other countries have to start realizing that we are just a Banana Republic, and cannot be relied upon.

Their peak capacity is somewhere north of 45MW with imports
Demand is around 24MW. Looking for citation...
 
Total blackout might sort this country out. No power for weeks means people can't work... No tax for the fat cats, and no free services for the people who destroy everything when the free services aren't enough. Maybe then they'll rethink who they vote for.

Nuclear yes, great solution. But Eskom can't seem to maintain even coal stations. How they going to run nuclear ones?

Those thugs will work out a way to steal the remaining fresh air, once they've filled their accounts, houses & compounds with everything else.
 
What annoys me most of all, is how to know when these power outages will take place.

Case in point - Friday e-tv news seemed to be replaying Thursday night's insert on this story, when they referred to ''tomorrow .. load shedding .. up to 12 hours, then will resume to the normal times on Saturday and Sunday".

In my area, on Friday, we had no power cuts.

Yesteaday, power was cut on 3 distinct occasions - over 4 hours in the morning, a similar amount of time in the afternoon, and just over an hour last night.

So, who's at fault - Eskom for not keeping to their schedules, or e-tv news in not updating their reports ?

You must be joking. A few weeks of no power is enough time for a country to descend into absolute chaos. No water being pumped, hospitals, clinics, fire stations and police stations won't function properly, no telecommunications, food will go bad, petrol stations can't pump fuel, gridlock because of non-functional traffic lights (while cars still have petrol) etc.

It'll only be a matter of time before people get really desperate and start looting, rioting, killing each other for food and fuel, and being taken over by mob mentality. It'll be a catastrophe.

If the grid did collapse I'd either be out to the country side or out of the actual country really quick
