EskomSe...

Eskom was created to supply power to the industrialization of South Africa and to take the responsibility of supplying power to all municipalities.

My mother grew up on a farm and they had no Eskom to supply them with power. My father told me they stayed in many houses without power and you had to pay to get connected.

Still the case. Any farms near me more than a few km outside any town have never been connected to Eskom. They have always been off the grid and smirk at the townspeople now being loadshedded.

Hi all...

Ja, ja we're all jumping on the EskomSe(MaSe)Push bandwagon.
But did we stop to consider that
during APARTHEID only a SELECT few (mainly whites), had access to ELECTRICTY.

After the ENTIRE country had JOINED the GRID!! There were bound to be challenges.

Look I'm not saying ESKOM's blameless, in 25 years they could have done things better.

All i'm saying is look at things in CONTEXT!!

POWER to the people!!

Mark.

Dear Mark, GFY.

Best regards.

What context is needed when Eskom has had years to make sure that we didn't get to the situation that we are at now. We can't blame apartheid when Eskom and the government had years to make Power to the people a priority.

And the government were warned to do so in the late 90's. But those warning them were told, "Your father told my father what to do but you're not going to tell me what to do!"

Said with hatred, invective, belligerence and spittle flying.

Have you considered that there were plans to give the entire country power? Who made the decision not to build those power stations? Who benefited from the power stations that were build? What happened to supervision and accountability?

Did you consider that most of the people that were adults in those days are in their 60s, 70s and or older and or dead? Have you considered that you just want to generationally punish minorities that had nothing to do with anything that happened because we were not born yet?

Why do you keep on blaming a tiny group of people that was born within our current government? We don't talk about the old one because we never knew it. All we know is, jobs are very hard to get because we have to pay for something that someone did 29 years ago.

Will this generational punishment continue into our futures, our children's future?

I think you need to touch face with reality, you have been neglecting it for a very long time. And looking at all the social media stuff, the people are ready to move forward. The bigger question is, are you?

You have almost NO understanding of the history of Eskom or this country. Just one small example is that Eskom's strategy was (before the ANC took over) to deliver "electrical power to all", regardless of what the government of the time seemed to be promoting. Had Eskom been allowed to continue on that path after 1994, we would NOT be in this predicament that we are in today. So do yourself a favour and get to know the history before commenting.

What do you expect of a 30%er to know about things before his birth?

So you don't think it could be a ANC supporter who's feeling got hurt by all the bad press?

Highly unlikely. If what the ANC has done to this country has not swayed their support - bad press is not even going to stand a chance.

The question should be: how much power was eskom producing in 1990? And how much are they producing in 2023? Therein lies the rub.
I hear you, good point ;)
Also, remember the NP didn't give 2 shits about the townships <1994 so there was almost no ESKOM there

Did you bother reading the thread at all before jumping in to post?

The first step In the massive scheme known as the Greater Soweto Electrification Project - due for completion at the end of 1983 - was taken by the three community councils of Soweto, Dobsonville and Meadowlands/Diepkloof in 1978 when they let it be known that they were not satisfied with the quality of life offered by their townships and were unhappy about the slow rate of improvement.
