Okay, so I am here at Esquire.

I have been a client for some time. On saturday I bought a new Acer laptop, a 4gb ram module and 2 carry bags. Everything was ordered online. I drove 80+ km to collect everything and another 80+ km back home just to find that the Kingston ram module did not work on the Acer. I checked the module on a fujitsu and dell laptop and did not work there too.

This morning I returned to esquire and they checked the ram module also to find it faulty. It was exchanged for a new module, which we also placed in the laptop, just to find it not working as well. A third and a fourth unit did not work either. The technician informed me that there are some compatibility issues with the kingston ram and newer machines of acer. He also told me that we were not the only people who had the issue.

Now they told me we could go home and return later this afternoon.

This is very unprofessional. They also have no other RAM in stock.

This will be my last dealings with esquire.

I will rather pay more at places like IC than being chased around and driving 400km up and down for a ram module not working.

I also find this uneccaptable that esquire knew about this problem and did not mention this on their website when we ordered it.

What did Google tell you about the compatibility or did you not check before buying?

That is quite crazy. Lets see if the esquire guy responds in this thread. Wouldnt it be better if they delivered it to you overnught if it is that far?

This is nothing, try to get a refund from them. That my friend is a real challenge. Will never buy from them again

Yip and the latest is that you have to show your invoice when you RMA with them, even though they have the invoice on their system, they will tell you they cant retrieve it. The one lady actually said that I need to pay R150 to have it retrieved.

I made the same statement in another thread this was the reply:

I just happen to browse through the forum after taking a break as I am still at the office adjusting all the pricing for Monday as Processors , Hard disk drives , monitors and Memory pricing are sky rocketing and saw Esquire mention on this thread and I think that you are being misled or have the wrong impression.

Esquire has never charged for lost invoices ever , however we insist you bring your original invoice to prove that you’re the original owner or reseller of the product.

We have had many times end users bringing stuff to us that were bought from the Junk Mail , OLX and other Auction sites as they cannot find the person that sold them the goods.

We cannot entertain end users as our infrastructure was never build for that type of business nor do we have the extra manpower to cater for them.

Another reason why we insist on the original invoice is that we had an issue couple of years back where we reprinted an invoice for a “ client” , did the necessary warranty swop only to find out later that is was the end user not our client ,who then went back and accused the reseller of ripping him off as he saw the original price on the reprinted invoice.

On suggestions of members on the forum we introduced that you could bring in your Xpress Card as proof of purchase and it has worked excellent thus far with no issues.

Yep, i did check. Could not find compatibility issues reported anywhere. Have been 3 hours at Esquire. Took the ram and left.

I will definately no longer be dealing with esquire ever again.

My problem with them now is the fact that the technician confirmed that they had a lot of other people with the same problem with the same ram unit. They never alerted anyone on their website and kept selling the unit. This is nothing less than scamming people.

Luckilly my client went with me to esquire.

They refuse to refund the unit, but want my client to buy a new ram unit costing R800.

I just left with the non-working unit.

I will buy my client a new ram unit at IC and write this whole issue off as a lesson learned never to deal with esquire again.

Does it not work on any system or just some systems? What is the model/code of the RAM?

So would I.

Its you as consumer's responsibility to verify if components are compatible.

That's what I thought, if you take your car to a mechanic. He will assess what parts are required to fix your car and buy them from a distributor (being Esquire in this case) he is then responsible to check that it is the correct part for your car, not the distributor.

thanx for that, but even if something was bought off OLX etc, and the warranty still remains with esquire if they sold it. Then they are ultimately responsible for the broken item.

Yeah but how are they supposed know it was actually bought from them if they don't have an invoice?

I have never ever checked ram compatibility before buying. DDR3. Check. 1333mhz. Check.

The ram was kingston 4gb pc3 - 10600 cl9 204 - pin. 1333mhz.

The laptop i bought there was an acer travelmate 5744.

The first ram unit did not work in the acer, a fujitsu siemens or dell laptop. I will check the replaced unit to see if it works on the dell or fujitsu

I bought many many ram units before and never had this issue

There's also the posibility that Esquire received a bad batch

how exactly are esquire at fault here?
its not their fault you live 80km away
did you specify the extra memory is for the laptop and ask if it is compatible, no you just ordered online.
why didnt you check the memory while you were there the first time when you collected?

I also have had horrible dealings with Esquire.
I really do prefer to not buy from them - I'd rather pay a tad bit more and goto Frontosa or Rectron than deal with Esquire.
If for example, you don't have a invoice, but the item was bought from them, they won't even bother to help you - at least at other suppliers, they'll make a effort, scan, try help you.
Esquire, nope!
When I also bought my Windows 7 back way back when, I had to drive up and down 6x! Even after the guy told me there was stock.
