Esquire - poor service

That make sense.

Doesn't always work like that with pc parts.
If I had to drive 80km I would check, takes about a minute to open and put in memory.
Would have saved him the return trip back and a lot of time, money and most importantly agro.

Yes, I was wondering what happened the the post I was trying to reply to. The question is is the RAM faulty or is it incompatible? Faulty - Esquire needs to sort out the issue and bend over backwards to do it.
Incompatible - well RAM incompatibility is not a myth. The person installing ends up with the responsibility if things don't work out.

Okay, just got home.

I just added the replaced unit into my Fujitsu Siemens and it did not work - keeps giving a blue screen. Added it to my Dell and also keeps giving blue screens.

I took 2x Samsung 4GB PC3 1060S RAM modules and added it into the Acer Travelmate and it picked up 8GB of RAM.

Again, I have been dealing with Esquire for some time, but this is the last.

They knew there were 'compatibility issues' with the RAM and new laptops. The technicians confirmed this. Yet, they found no need to show it on their website. I do not wish to deal with companies who are blatantly dishonest.

+1. Not checking manufacturer specification is an extra fault.

At the time laptop was manufactured, it was tested with 2GB modules maximum. New density chips are coming and if SIMs are using higher density chips, it won't work. For older PC's/laptops it is always a challenge to find out compatible memory modules using lower density chips, as higher density are faster, cheaper to manufacture and consume less power.

Yeah but how are they supposed know it was actually bought from them if they don't have an invoice?

That's the thing, they do know, as they check the serial numbers to their stock list.

Hi Richard

Yes, I know that Chris called you quite a few times since 09:00 and 11:30 while we were downstairs. Chris kept saying that there were incompatibility issues he reported to you (not only today, but a while ago as well, due to the fact that a lot of people are returning the units), but no one believed him. In fact, this morning again you told him to get 2 more ram units to test and none worked.

Also Chris stated that the RAM will only work on older laptop models. I tested this on 3 older models, they did not work there either.

edit: P.s: Me and my client stood at the front desk when you two spoke on the phone, so we heard the conversation.

Also, before you guys answer here are my facts:

1. I bought the Acert Travelmate 5744, the 4GB Kingston Ram and 2 carry bags from you.

2. Here are the specs from Acer - the RAM:

acer specs.jpg

3. Here are a list of RAM modules that are compatible:

memory modules.png

4. Here are the RAM I ordered from you:

As you can see, the RAM should work fine. I cannot see why it should not.

Have you tried to get these type on memories if they available in South Africa

Nope, but I will be getting some other brand, as I think the esquire salesman is correct in saying that the Kingston RAM is not compatible with Acer. I have slotted that RAM into 7 different laptops now and could not get it to work on any.

I now just wonder on which laptop the kingston ram will work now.....

I got the list from a website promoting Samsung and another make only.

I contacted Acer and they confirmed that the Kingston should work fine if it had the same specs, which they did.

If I had to take a stab in the dark here, sounds like Acer is wrong.

what OS are you running 32bit or 64bit as according from what I am reading and understanding if you have the 64bit OS you need two of the exact memory modules

I have a 64-bit, but even if I make use of only the single 4GB module, I still get errors. The same applies to 7 other laptops.

Hi There

As I mentioned earlier that I am well aware of the situation regarding that memory, as I have since have spoken to Acer and Kingston UK and the local Kingston representative today to find a solution as we need to solve this issue not only for one client but to all our clients that may face a similar issue in the future.

While we sell over 10 000 current line items, it is possible there may be some unforeseen compatibility issues between certain items from time to time.

So here are the facts as we know them to be:
Client bought 1 x Acer laptop NX.V5MEA.005 and 1 x Kingston 4GB SODimm KVR13S9S8/4. memory module and 2x Notebook bags from us last week 18/05/2013.

Client returned today saying that the memory was giving blue screens with the Kingston 4GB SODimm KVR13S9S8/4. (While this memory is of exceptional quality there are instances in which certain memory modules may not work on certain machines for various reasons.)

The Technician tried to install it and we acknowledge that the machine became unstable and blue screens began to appear rendering the machine unusable.

The Technician then called me to inform me of all the above.

I immediately searched the Kingston site and spoke the local reps from both Acer and Kingston to enquire as which memory is 100%approved on this notebook and found the code Part Number: KAC-MEMJ/4G, and was about to order it when I first wanted to inform the client (this all happened within a matter of 20-30 minutes) and called to the Technician immediately told him to inform the customer that the memory is about R 130.0.00 excl vat more. (R429.00 –R299.00=R130.00 excl vat )

Chris (Technician) then told me the client left saying he will take it up with Kingston directly with no further discussion.
Nowhere in my conversation with the technician did I say the price would be R 400 more than the current memory he already bought , There is currently only three units of this memory available due to the huge shortage of memory worldwide, I have already ordered all three of them , They will be in stock on Tuesday afternoon

Richard, why was there no mention on your website that the RAM may not be compatible with certain laptops using the same specs? Also, why would a 4GB SODimm RAM module not be compatible with a laptop that has capability for such modules?

Just my 2 cents, after waiting from 09:00 to past 11, I would also have left.
