Just got my US Itunes store sorted so looking to fill my iphone4 with all the sweetest apps. I know it's obviously up to the person as to what apps they would be looking for but listing your top 5 apps you can't live without should at least be interesting.

eBuddy - free - chat app that works great with gchat and many others etc.

WhatsApp - $1 - gives you the equivalent to Blackberry's messenger service, free messages to other smart phone users

That's all I have for now as I just got my phone, so looking to see what other ppl can't live without!

Flashlight
Light Emitting Software that works best in Darkness

Facebook
See what your friends are up to

Kamikaze Race
Looks like GTA1, you try to drive as fast as you can on a highway

Stanza
Read Books n Stuff, cause Libary's are good for us.

Peggle
You basically try to shoot balls with another ball, and then try to catch it again....is the best way I can describe it - best used for when dropping the kids of at the swimming pool.

I've had an iPod touch for a while before I got my iphone, so these are not specifically iPhone apps, but they are the ones I use, how can I only choose 5:

Kindle: Big time, i read a lot on the kindle app. My advice here is to set up a US Amazon profile and use that to buy books, that way you don't pay the extra $2 for the whispersync. Also it means that free books are free and not $2. This app was great in the Touch, but with the iPhone's retina display it is just awesome.

PingChat!: a very similar app to WhatsApp, but free. It has a small add at the bottom of the screen though. The problem with both PingChat! and WhatsApp is that neither of them run on all three of the major smartphone OSs. Ping Doesn't work on BB and WhatsApp doesn't work on Andriod.

Meebo: this is another chat client that works across multiple networks. It does all the major ones, but not Skype. Trillian does Skype, but it is a paid app. At the moment I don't really chat very much on the iPhone, if i start doing that more I will pay for Trillian.

Facebook & Twitter: These are no brainers, I just use the standard apps, but there are many out there, I haven't really gone too far into it. Any suggestions?

TBD: NavApp: I'm still researching this one because they are so expensive, there is little wonder these are the highest grossing apps in the SA iTunes store. I have found no free app that offers Turn by Turn Voice navigation and finds South African locations. There is a thread for this one though. I will be getting one I wish there was a try before you buy option.

That's awesome, makes them the winner. I was on the site yesterday but missed that, the FAQ says no andriod, but that is awesome. I'm getting it now.

WhatsApp is in Beta for Android 2 as well as Symbian S60...

Had a friend WhatsApp me from his Nokia last night... Was very suprised.....

WhatsApp
Amazing app as mentioned before

Engadget
For all your gadget and tech news

ESPN Cricinfo
Live cricket scores

Moodagent
Music app that generates a playlist based on a seed song. Like iTunes' Genius, but better IMHO.

Trapster
A map based "Pigspotter". For those that don't know what that is: A map based network of individuals tagging where police are doing roadblocks & speedtraps (and much more, but that's the basics)

mmm not sure if anything changed... You got a US store account?

WhatsApp is +infinity better than PingChat! The way it integrates with contacts is amazing. Saw that a bunch of my friends that I havent seen in ages have the app too.

I agree, the way it automatically updates when someone on your contacts signs up is amazing....

Tried. iTunes denies with message: 'Please enter a US credit card with matching billing address'

Goto one of the many sites that sell US itunes gift cards.

buy one.

Create a new account when viewing the US store.

Use fakenamegenerator.com and use the name, street address, state etc.

For payment, select 'none' then below that enter the code for your itunes gift card.

win

I put this list below, on a thread about the iPad, but most if not all of the apps listed have versions for the iPhone.....here follows:

There is even an app - goLINK (free, but you have to buy the cable) which you can plug into your cars computer and do vehicle diagnosing on your iPad - just like they do at the dealer, and get info like fuel economy, diagnose faults, codes etc

Accuweather is a top weather app for iPad in HD, very accurate forecasting

Flipboard is great for reading your facebook in a magazine type format

eBay app - handy

Whislte app, (free), allocates you an American phone number, and you can make phone calls to anyone in the USA for free, or receive calls !!!!!!!!! wow. I now make all my USA calls through this app

ABC player....damn, wish it would work here - anyone know how to fool the app into thinking our IP address is in the USA so we can use this app ? it looks great

Colorsplash - wow, amazing how well you can edit your pictures with this app - making some items appear in color and others in black and white, cool app

Lets Go - fantastic golf app for the iPad in HD - stunning graphocs

News24 app - great

DSTV app - cool

Radio South Africa app - so I can listen to most of the radio stations around the country

Goodreader app - fantastic way to read and download magazines, operator manuals in pdf etc

enjoy....
