eth device here soon?

I also know they will have a lot more customers wanting to sign up once the device is available and I want to see what happens to the speeds of Neotel customers once that starts. I'm betting on sub-dial-up speeds.

Let's hope not!

Let's hope not!

For sure I'm hoping that won't happen as I would really like to believe Neotel is what it says it is, and can support the speeds it advertises. I hate Telkom and would really like some genuine competition for them.

However I can't afford to get involved in a 24 month contract only to find out that the speeds (and terribly unreliable devices) make the service unusable. If they could organise a month-to-month option (even if I had to buy a device upfront that could be used on another contract with them at a later stage) I would sign up yesterday.

Same here. The other thing that bugs me is the fact that you can't use the device with any other service provider (like with telkom). But it's still worth it to me.

So, Monday 3 November came and went, and there wasn't even a whisper from Neotel, pity.

Very sad. I wonder how many more times will the launch date be pushed back. Seems the launch date is reset every 100 days.

Just phoned them.
Device here on the 20th November.
No uncapped solution.
10/15gb packages only though :/

ffs. wonder whats the chances one can get ure settings from the phone and port it over to the router :P

It is like Neotel are going out of their way to push customers away. They claim to read these forums, but I'm not so sure they do. Perhaps if they read them a little more carefully they would discover that people want uncapped on ethernet.

yeah, what boggles my mind is that a company can sell me an uncapped modem, but refuse to do so with their ethernet device.

I'm still going to be doing precisely the same thing now that I have a modem that I would have done with an ethernet device.
All that this means is ill have to dust off some old pc parts. assemble a pc, build a dhcp server and route all the traffic on the network through it.

Their argument that if they released an uncapped ethernet device that a lot of users can connect using one connection is just stupid.

Proudly SA! I wonder if the directors at neotel actually know what ethernet is....

I can just imagine it in the boardroom...

Ajay Pandey, "...ethernet, whats that? Sounds technical... best we not give it to the customers for now. Let them wait, until we figure it out what it does!"

Sango Ntsaluba, "eish, it is coppa wire"!

Ajay Pandey, "dooogh....I though we were wireless"

Sango Ntsaluba, "no boss, yes boss... eish dis it to difficult... you are confusing for me now"

lol. don't think its that bad up at the top.

The problem with big corporates are that they usually try to get the biggest market share.
Hence we saw now the big fiasco with the usb phone and having a battery so that it could be used in power outs...

From the FAQ on why the thing didn't have ethernet they said that ethernet drained power too much. U might have noticed cellphones do not also have an ethernet port :P

So yeah, the device their using is a study in designing something for the masses. It's got a normal telephony look to it. no great hassle if you don't have a pc since it can still be used as a normal phone. If you do choose to connect it to a pc then they use the easiest method which is usb unfortunately :/

If we had a ethernet device from the get go just imagine how their tech support would look with all the ppl phoning up wondering what the hell DHCP, FIREWALL, NAT is...

But then again... if they were really smart they would try to get a hook in with the early adopters.....and the early adopters from the getgo wanted............ETHERNET/ROUTER type device. aai aai.

Maybe they think that if four pcs are connected to the router, that we'll get 4*3.1Mbps download speed so we'll use four times the data. :D

If that were true I'd get my own router hooked up to it as well and get 7*3.1Mbps DL speed. A 20Mbps connection would be orsum. :p

Seriously though. Amount of pcs connected should not affect it. It really seems that the think more pcs will equal higher dl speed. That's pathetic.

3.1Mbps is 29% faster than 2.4Mbps. They could've offered the same R999 2.4Mbps package at R1299. If they wanna make extra cash take away the free minutes and sms.

Why take away the whole package completely?

Madness.

Think that's precisely what my rep thought...

Might be that they hope that you wont fully utilise the uncapped a.k.a download like a badboy... and just use ure connection like a normal user would....
If so then i get their thought train that more users would equal more usage as the chances of someone using the connection most of the time is increased...

but yeah, assumptions.......is the mother of all........ u get the drift.

Just got this back from Neotel regarding the new ethernet device (after the normal 24 hour wait)...

Dear xxxxxxxxxx,

Thank you for the interest in Neotel services.

We do not have a specific date but it will be in the very near future.
