Hi

My girlfriends laptop has been formatted, I would just like to knwo what driver should I download for the ethernet controller.

In device manager the "ethernet controller" is still needing a driver.

here is the website for the specific HP Motherboard.

HP Drivers

Thanks

You should check which adapter she has. Check the manual, or if you can remember if the network is only 10/100 capable, or if it can do Gigabit. The rest of the drivers are for Wireless

I did install all the Wireless/Modem drivers and all works fine.

Yes it is 10/100, but that is all I know. :o

She has no driver cd or manual.

HwINFO is likely your friend ...as is Ubuntu* (or some other liveCD)

*though, I find 8.04 annoying in that it no longer (that I've seen but it's likely me being stupid) has the device manager which was so very handy at identifying things like this.

it would say something about a 802.11 b/g wireless adapter
if you list some possibilities we could point the correct one out...

whats the make/model?

It is a

HP Compaq nx6110 Notebook PC

The wireless, modem, sound card and video card drivers have been downloaded and installed. Would like to know what is that other adapter.

right click my computer --> properties --> hardware --> device manager --> right click on unknown device, properties --> details.

take note of the dev/ven number and enter them on this website:
www.pcidatabase.com

From HP, a specs page: (with other, unimportant here stuff)
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900
Optional Integrated 802.11a/b/g or 802.11b/g wireless LAN modules
Support for optional Intel Centrino™ mobile technology
Optional integrated Bluetooth®
NetXtreme 10/100 Ethernet Controller
- which elG tells me is a Broadcom device ..which, I reckon, a quick boot-up with, say, Ubuntu 7.10 would have found for you in about 5min flat.

There is only one 10/100 Ethernet driver on the page you linked to. The rest are all wireless drivers/utilities or Gigabit network drivers

I would start with
1. Broadcom BCM440x 10/100 Ethernet Driver for Microsoft Windows XP
and then try
2. Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Driver
and then
3. Intel PRO/Wireless Drivers
