ETV + SABC free on DSTV?

You will have to get SOME sort of decoder or "set top box" by November 2011 when the analog signal will be discontinued - i.e. all terrestrial transmissions will be digital by then. Might as well go the MC route.

Just to be clear, will the standard DSTV decoder still work when we move to digital?
 
Yes,dstv is DVB-S ----> satellite ---------> dish
digital tv is DVB-T ----> terestial ---------> aerial

diffent signals

Thanks, AFAIK the Set-top boxes will be around R700 and currently the standard DSTV decoders are R400 :confused:. I think a lot of people will just get a MC decoder instead.

Depends on what you wanna watch.Dstv won't give you any terrestial channels.

Actually i predict a rise in the Mnet only deal on dvb-t.

Ja man...but it won't carry terrestial channels.The current sabc channels and etv are national.

But yes,if you're not interested in any terrestial stuff then a dstv decoder is fine,if you want to pay R20 p/m and if you have a better package than easyview you're anyway sorted.

It will still work as it gets its signal from a satellite, not a terrestrial tower. And thus there's no reason why SABC and E-tv would be discontinued when the terrestrial towers go digital only.
