Out of curiosity - anyone play these? The EQII community seems to be in slim pickings lately. I downloaded and subscribed to a trial of EVE last night. So far it's fun, but slooooooooow - in the sense that it takes a while to get from point A to B.

Well EVE is a slow game. If you want action-packed instant satisfaction, you probably won't like EVE as much. Imagine needing a real life week to train a skill, imagine it training while you're offline...that's EVE ;) .

EVE feels alot more like a strategy/empire building game the last time i played it. You know like X2 , Master of Orion , Galactic Civilisations..probably some Homeworld in there too.

Obviously it makes the game somewhat more "intelligent" than say WoW, but it's not always everyon'es cup of tea.

As for EQ2 , dunno, EQ1 was a big grind feast , i don't think i would bother with EQ2 at this stage considering the effort you might need to get into it [getting the actual game+patches] . I'd rather wait and see what happens with Warhammer [coming out in a month] or even Wrath of the Lich King [WoW expansion] which should be coming i'd say end of the yearish.

And there's always Age of Conan that can keep you busy for a month or 3 until you hit the non existing high level content [which may or may not have appeared by then].

It does take some time to get from A to B in EVE :D Mostly it's worth it though.

Look up Darkfall, wait for it and play it :D

I enjoyed the role-playing aspects of EverQuest, but it seems to have become so quiet. I'm losing interest in it rapidly. I guess you could even say that I've already lost interest. I'm mostly annoyed because I had to download 4GB of updates only to go, "eh... Neeeeext!" after about 5 hours of trying different servers looking for more people.

I've only ever played one of the X-games - X3. I enjoyed it, but the bugs ruined much of it for me.

Let me try explain what I meant when I said that I find EVE slow. If I'm going to jump five sectors, I pretty much get up, make a sandwich, a cup of tea, sit back down and carry on :) Right now I'm enjoying it a lot, though.

Oooo... peeeerdy! I'll deffies wait for it and give it a shot. Another one I'm waiting anxiously for is KOTOR3.

I don't suppose either of you feel like sharing your EVE experiences, your organizations/guilds/whatever and anything else you might feel relevant?

I haven't actually played EVE very long. I trained some skills, went and mined some materials in the middle of nowhere, got shot out of the sky for flying in the wrong places, lost my ship. All in all i think it only starts to shine once you join an organisation and work towards a bigger goal, otherwise it's just big empty space for you and crater mining.

I only stopped because i ran outa time for multiple MMOs and got sucked into WoW Raiding. Everything however is now sort of coming to a little standstill in anticipation of a few big releases. So it's a good time to check out a few MMOs now or return to old favorites.

Quite a load of SA EvE players, not so many Everquest II players unfortunately.

@ diabolus - I quite enjoy shooting stuff ^.^ Still getting the hang of it though. I'm playing as an Amarr and recently acquired a shiny new ship worth about 500K ISK, don't remember what it's called though :) Always fun getting new stuff :p

@ Lydon - I haven't found any Saffers on EVE yet, would be fun to find them at some point. What MMOs do you play, if you don't mind me asking?

Just a word of warning, afk AutoPiloting in EVE is not recommended, you run the risk of returning, and seeing your pod floating in space, or you might be back in your clone bay even.

I am in a South Africa corporation in EVE. 500,000 ISK for a ship, heh, I paid over 5mil for a cruiser (Thorax), and that's only a cruiser, the battlecruisers can go for +/-20mil and battships around 100mil. And those aren't anywhere near the most expensive ships, there you are talking a good couple of billion ISK.

@Lycanthrope & anyone else who is interested: The corp is an Amarr corp in Amarr space, but I am Gallente, and we have also Caldari and Minmatar too, though!. Look me up in EVE, as Aiden Bismuth.

The Guiding Social Hand Club got me into EVE.

Yea, it is a slow build up, but so worth it. Once you get down to a nullsec alliance and work towards conquering sovereignty, defending yours, high end manufacturing, etc, it really does get into its stride.

PVP in EVE is the absolute business imo. Other MMO's have you getting pwnd and respawning, ready to go again. In EVE you will die and you will loose lots of stuff, but that is the motivating factor, that drives the game.

Few things can match that feeling you get when you hear the squishing sound of a pod being popped.

Heh, I just had to visit that site. They want you to PAY for their alleged "cheats". I smell a Russ.... virus/keylogger download site.

Just a warning to any EVE player using or thinking of using this site, using exploits in EVE is agains their EULA, and will get you permabanned, or at the very least, your wallet will go into the red. I imagine it's pretty much the same for other MMOs as well.

More than likely, you will be "cheated" out of your hard-earned cash by this site.

Yeah, i hate that... going through 33 systems isnt fun with the wait.

I prefer manually warping within 0m, jumping, and warping the next gate

Ive just finished my EVE trial. Still contemplating playing it further, i cant decide whether to mine (in my shiny new cruiser) or pve through the storyline missions

We've been playing Eve for just under 2 years now.
Normally we get bored of a game after a month if its good.
Once in a while tho you need a break, so we just set a long skill to train, and dont log in for a month, but we're always eager to come back.

The thing about Eve that does it for us is the fact that there is a real risk in what you are doing, if you lose your ship, its gone, makes it alot more fun.

We started off as an industrialist miner, but that lasted about a month, and then we decided to shoot things for a living, been doing that ever since.

Its true what they say tho, you need to find yourself a nice corporation or group of people to keep the game compelling, seeing as alot of the goals are simply unattainable alone.

Theres nothing quite like the feeling of seeing your corporation pull together to do something really big, like building its first capital ships, or putting up your own stations.

Our corp launched its first few cap ships last month, we're now have about 10 of them in the corp, all with pilots assigned and in use.

Anyways, feel free to look us up ingame, or evemail us, we'd be more than happy to give you some advice or fly with you if you need some help etc.
Our character's name is Evyl Schnukkems

The human aspect of the game also quite fun. Like playing the market, diplomacy and politics. Why just this past week certain members in our alliance were rapped over the fingers due to entering, as roaming gangs, the sovereignty of a certain very big "swarm" of an alliance, with whom we have a non aggression pact.

Oops...

@ BlueCollar - I've been considering it for a while as well. I have it on my wishlist on Take2. I don't know too much about it though - please feel free to give me all the info you can :D What are the guilds like, people, do you get housing, Necros? I can't live without a Necro!!! Or at the very least some sort of summoner >.> And is there a good and engrossing storyline?

Thanks :)

There are no necros unfortunately - you play as "good guys" in the Lord of the Rings world. You could play as a lore master who summons bears, lynxes, crows etc. Also, there is monster play, which is the PvP element. In monster play you can play as "bad guys," including wargs, spiders and all kinds of orcses.

There is player and guild housing.

Amazing, friendly, mature community.

Great graphics, immersive main storyline and nice secondary story arcs (like getting to reforge Aragorn's sword, Narsil), very polished game and nice little touches like being able to play music.

I think the only real gripe people may have with LotRO is that you have to play as "good guys" and that there isn't persistant world PvP.
