I am here to manage your price expectations... that is all I am going to say.

“I would expect the service to be cheaper than Showmax or perhaps even be the same price,” Dikgale said.

Media Monitoring Africa director William Bird said he thinks the price of a standalone DStv Now service will be comparable to a Netflix package.

These guys have placed WAY TOO MANY cbd oil orders. They nuts.

At the moment I'm paying a colleague 300pm for her DSTV now (Premium) login details, she doesnt have an internet connection - I get all 4 logins and i can do as I will. So I'm pretty sure it won't be as cheap as what I'm paying - but nice to know that if my agreement goes tits up, there are options.

She also wanted me to use it for free - but I'm benefiting off her monthly repayments to DSTV. So if anything, it's a little bit of cash in hand for her. I agreed to R300 - her, either free or R50 a month LoL

We know DSTV cannot handle the stresses everyday streaming puts on their resources, but I'm sure that wont be an issue going forward.

I suppose 4k would be very real option now taking the hardware (decoder) constraint out the picture.

Won't be cheaper than their existing Dstv. What they may do is bundle an internet connection at a higher price from the looks of it.

Mmmm. New Premium+ (4k) packages @R999. Bliksems!

I'm confused as to why everyone is talking about this like it's new or something. This is literally their current DSTV Now product but will now be able to get it standalone, right?

It is new because we've never had it as a standalone product. Get it?

If it was merely the decoder that was the issue, then yes..

I somehow doubt Multichoices streaming systems are capable of dishing out a stable 4K stream, when they struggle with 1080 already when it gets vaguely busy...

They cannot get their authentication done properly. You have re- authenticate, every other week. Not had to fo that fo NetFlix in over two years. And they think they ready?

Maybe for a typical Africa effort ...

If Dstv wants to compete with Netflix and provide {full content in their library} then it's gonna have to be in the R200 - R250 range package per month, or this whole competitiveness will go down the drain for Dstv!

Will be modelled on nowtv.
Purchase packages for specific sporting events is the only way to go.

Pointless having a R500 standard service and then R450 add on for the sport.
Add on would therefore not apply to lower tier packages as everyone would take the cheapest package and then add the sport.

Might as well stick to Premium.

That is a solvable problem to be fair. And with AWS and Azure making local landing points, they could get a fairly robust system going.

They could, but given how much money Takealot took to achieve sweet FA in terms of a robust and scalable system, what chance do you think MC have?

I think where they will get a lot of $$ is pay per view for sport.

There are people like me and my family who don't give a toss about most sports other than the world cup. So I would never buy their premium in the first place. However a once off payment that gives access to the world cup rugby games for example would be dangerously tempting.
