Evetech insider provides insight into the tech retailer's processes

Good article, poor service should never be rewarded

Thank the pope and his cousin that I took shipping insurance on my last order.

Ordered an Asus A15 for close to R27k, and Aramex frikkin lost the parcel. Like aweek and a half later, I insisted on a replacement. Finally got one. I suppose it is back to ordering high end laptops from different shops. Evetech will never see another cent of my money.

Edit: I also bought a Lenovo Legion laptop hat takes a mammoth 230w power supply. I emailed them asking for an additional power supply, one for work, one for home. Carrying this thing around gets heavy. Long story short, they told me to go play, and that they didnt sell accessories.

Yes. Notebooks Evetech won't deal with you under any circumstances. Deal directly with dell and they flippen awesome.
Dell has been like that no matter where you buy it from
But with their latops they tell you deal with the reseller in SA ie Rectron, pinnacle etc
even if you buy a dell from the USA etc they will come to your house to repair it or courier you a replacement screen and then only collect once you got the new one

Damn I bought an item from them on special...but it was like half the price of Takealot.
Oh well, hope it never breaks.

Question. They state the following:

If a customer wanted their money back because they were unhappy with a product, what was Evetech’s usual response?

The same as the above. Support staff had to find out why the customer was unhappy and try to get them to keep the product.

If they wanted to return it because they were just unhappy, the same conditions as above would apply.

Many unhappy customers would cause a scene or write a bad review and then the rules would be bent for them.

So you can buy an item and 3 months later return it for a full refund because you're unhappy or had a change of heart? Is that what the CPA says? I am pretty sure any retailer is allowed to ask a restocking fee if that is the case.

Also, I've had multiple items replaced by wootware, where I had to cover the costs to get the product to them and they have also first sent it to the supplier for testing. Once the supplier confirmed it was busted I got a replacement.

I had a few dealings with them over the years with two big purchases and a few other small items in between and I can be thankful that nothing broke since apparently.
1.Desktop PC 2017 - Staff was friendly but they made me feel unwelcome when they broke out the blue light to count the cash (made me wait over 45min because their accounting lady was apparently busy)
2. Laptop 2019 - Ordered online and it was delivered at my doorstep within a week

I really miss Rebel Tech and if I can find a similar electronics store I would definitely support them.

Ex Rebeltech staff that went solo :)

Oh wow!! I was about to purchase a new Ryzen 5 upgrade kit through them but flip, not doing this now, what a pity....

Since everyone likes articles, here is one:

I was so lucky they refunded me in full after they botched my purchase and never put in the order with the supplier.

Another Ex Evetech Employee here.

Don't think that their dodgy practices are coincidental or limited to customers, they know exactly what they are doing. Employees were also treated badly during my time.

On the 20% restocking fee etc. that is a load of horse. The reason that they have such competitive prices is because they have agreements in place with manufacturers and suppliers. they get the products, motherboards, ram etc at much reduced prices due to the volume they purchase and would always get massive discounts on those already reduced prices due to the volumes. That is the reason that upgrade bundles etc are "so well" priced. The handling fee was completely unnecessary as many suppliers themselves didn't strictly apply that policy. The handling fee/ restocking fee was just another way to make a customer who already had paid for said item, pay just a bit more. Not that it actually cost Evetech anything, as mentioned they already got the stock at massively reduced prices. They could afford to have the item collected, replaced or repaired and sent back to the customer while still making sizable profits. and that they were, making sizable profits I mean.

Employees weren't treated as kings either, despite them taking most the brunt of the complaining customers. You worked 6 days a week for minimum pay despite your qualifications or experience. Wouldn't receive a pay slip or employment contact. I'm relatively certain that salaries were logged as company expenses and not actually acknowledged as salaries, you can go down the rabbit hole here, income tax that possibly wasn't payed, UIF etc. Sales guys weren't allowed to make commission on sales of walk in clients as management reasoned that the clients know what they were coming there for. This was always a hot topic as many walk in customers really didn't know what they wanted to buy. Sick leave and days off, forget it. Lunch break? you must be kidding, you eat when you aren't busy, and don't think you wont be kept busy.

Not to divulge to much. The point I'm making is that Evetech Management / Owners could care less about the customers or staff. Its all about making money, be it honestly (Haha) or through any underhanded business tactic they can apply.

Advice: Buy from another company, even if it costs a bit more. If you genuinely cannot (doubtful). Know the risk you take.

Cheers

Thanks for the insight, I will definitely stay clear of them

Maybe time that someone should tip off SARS. With what has been implied here, what are the chances they are being honest with the tax man?
