I bought a Lenovo Legion Pro 5 (83DF00CDSA) from Evetech in June 2025. The listing advertised 3 years warranty.

In May 2026 the fans started making a bad noise under sustained CPU load. I sent it in for warranty repair of the fan fault.

A few months before that I spilled a small amount of coke on the numpad. The keys have been slightly sticky since. I never sent it in for that and I never hid it.

PartServe found liquid residue on the keyboard and voided the entire warranty. Not the keyboard. The whole unit.

I pointed out that the Lenovo Limited Warranty (L505-0010-03) excludes failures "resulting from" misuse, abuse or accident. That is a causation requirement. Nobody has shown that residue on the numpad caused a mechanical fan failure in a separate part of the chassis.

Evetech's reply, in writing: "Regardless if the liquid damage caused the fans to fail or not, liquid damage voids the entirety of the unit."

The photos PartServe sent as evidence show no visible liquid damage on the numpad and nothing near the fans.

CGSO complaint filed (Ref 8499JWX4), in adjudication. NCC won't take it until the CGSO finishes. Emails to Lenovo SA and PartServe management bounced.

Four months without my machine. I've now asked for it back unrepaired so I can pay someone else to fix it. Buyer beware, they really are a disaster to deal with.

Happy to share the full email thread and the warranty documents with anyone who wants them.

And this is why : "Regardless if the liquid damage caused the fans to fail or not, liquid damage voids the entirety of the unit."

It will costs thousands and thousands of ZAR if EACH liquid damaged item, has to be analyzed to this extend in every single case.

And that would make the products much more expensive and/or make everybody pay a LOT more extra for extended warranties.

You spilled liquid on your device...it is YOUR FAULT.

He isn't disputing that the spill is his fault. That's not the issue.

The question is whether a spill automatically voids the entire warranty, including unrelated failures. Lenovo's warranty excludes failures “resulting from” accidents.

If causation genuinely doesn't matter, as Evetech says, where exactly does the warranty say that?

Asus has a 'perfect warranty' which when extended is max 3 years and covers spill damage.

Not insured?

Hmmm, come to think of it neither is my laptop because I was quoted R500 p.m.

There was a time when I was involved in PC sales. ASUS doesn't have the best warranty standards. For a business, HP and Dell exceed most standards, at least in SA. I am not going to go into this too deeply. Everything is liquid in this market, and when it comes to distribution (and their workshops).

IIRC, Lenovo doesn't cover accidental damage. This is where insurance comes in, but this is not my case.

Even spill damage comes with limitations. Usually that is covered by extended warranties. In Asus's case, that is covered by their Premium Care plan.

To add: In my experience, even to this day, I have never had an issue sourcing parts through the business. The problem with damage assessment is that it can be determined that whole parts must be replaced. It could be that the Lenovo assembly includes the entire heatsink (cooling) unit, and that will drive up costs.

Sure if that was their position then they should word their legal contract better. Give the wording they need to prove causation which they have not. Therefore they are in breech.

My legal agreement is with Evetech. Their deal with partserve has nothing to do with me.
What does your invoice and t/c's say with regards to warranty? Go from there. You will probably find that evetsek fkd you in that regard. But that's a different discussion

even is you spilled small amount of coke on it , the sugar in the coke will start eating away on the components over time
I am not a chemist so in no position to agree or disagree, but give the warranty wording if this is true that my spill killed the fan, they just need to show me.

They are, the wording is very very clear. And they are in breech in my opinion. The wording says the ****ups caused by negligence are not covered, but I am not asking to them to cover my spill. I am asking them why my 32k laptop that was 11 months old cant run some python scripts without sounding like its dying.
