I moved into a complex that has been set up for Evotel Fibre. I wonder whether I am locked into that ISP or if I am free to choice another ISP like Telkom or CFibre from Cell C? I would imagine the infrastructure is the same?

I saw on the Evotel website that the 5Mbps unshaped uncapped line is recommended for light usage such as browsing the news, sending emails, social media etc. That seems a bit odd given that my Telkom ADSL line (at my previous place) was around the same speed and I was able to stream YouTube videos without waiting for buffering.

Does anyone have any experience with Evotel? Can another service provider use the cables they laid out?

Hi nneguy, we have signed the MSA with Evotel but keep chasing them and have no further feedback, but in theory yes you should be able to sign with another ISP.

What is MSA? Did they just never show up for installation?

Master Services Agreement, so we as an ISP can offer services on their network.

Hopefully this happens really soon as evotels network is terrible for international traffic been waiting nearly a month for them to fix it.

Good luck OP. I have yet to have our ISP onboarded, and I do not know of any estate that uses Evotel that has successfully used an ISP other than Evotel.

We keep chasing but no response...

Hi

We will be meeting with Cool Ideas, Early Next week to finalize commercials, sorry we were under the impression, they had all the required information.

Looks like we are meeting next week to finalise things, and should be good to take orders from there.

Have finalised everything with the Evotel guys this morning, we will be publishing prices on our website shortly and have our cross connect into their network ready to roll :).

Hi Guys,

is there perhaps a trial account i can do a few tests before moving from @evotel as i dont want to move to more bad speeds

Thanks Will Cool Ideas be using there own backhaul or going via Evotels?

What do you mean? Evotel will do Layer2 to hand off then we do the rest, just like every other ISP. So back-haul yes, national/international and peering no.

Thanks thats what i needed to know, currently I am getting 25megs down and 25 up to the seacom server in london on a 100 meg package, and evotel uses seacom as a isp. Does that sound right and will it most likely be the same on cool ideas on the same package on cool ideas?

CoolIdeas have a month to month option.

Not that it matters, they have really good service. Been with them almost over a year now.

Well currently with the Seacom outage I imagine this doesn't help, but it also depends which speedtest server in London, have got up to 300Mbps on a speedtest to London before over our network.
