Excel protected sheet problem

I'll try to explain.

All schools in the Western Cape received an excel sheet on which the learners' end-of-term marks must be entered and submitted to the circuit offices. An extra is also a Report Card sheet that is created as the marks are entered.

This sheet is protected however but this is not the immediate problem because it can easily be turn off at File | Info.

This excel document consists of a couple of sheets. The 2 sheets relevant to problem is the Marks sheet (it is called a Schedule) and a Report card sheet that has all the subject marks linked with the schedule.

We are a Primary School.

The first issue is the fact that History and Geography appear on the Schedule sheet and Report Card sheet as a combined subject namely Social Sciences. We want to add another column to split Social Sciences into History and Geography. On the Schedule sheet it was easy enough to insert a new column. On the report card sheet it is also possible BUT when I toggle to the schedule sheet and back again to the report card sheet the inserted row vanishes and the sheet is protected again.

Also I can't see how the two sheets are linked since I can't see any formulas that link the cells from the two sheets. The formulas also don't appear to be hidden since I have checked under Cell Properties and the Protection Tab, but then hidden box isn't checked.

I have only basic Excel skills.

What version of Excel are you using & also what is the file extension of the Excel spreadsheet xls or xlsx?!?

Office 2010

nvm

I contacted the education departement and I've emailed them the documents. Their developers will modify it.
