Durban - A former Pietermaritzburg journalist, who was attacked in her home in Johannesburg last week, said on Monday it was pointless to hold a "Homecoming Expo" in London if it was too dangerous for former South Africans to return to the country.

Primarashni Gower, 37, and her husband, David, 46, her mother and their three children were held up by armed men on Saturday night and robbed of their most valuable possessions.

"That afternoon we were sitting on our veranda talking about a recent murder in a nearby street, and I said to my mother that we have been in this house for six years and I'm sure it is just a matter of time before it's our turn," said Primarashni, the co-editor of the Higher Learning supplement in the Mail&Guardian.

"It's ironic that next week there's the Homecoming Expo in London. We have a wonderful country, but I would never advise someone to come back," she said.

"Our government is out of touch with what is really going on. I voted for the ANC, but I feel abandoned."

Well I was please to see that of the five people I assisted in interviewing this week, 3 of them were Saffers from London. One even had British citizenship and came back cos they missed the place, I just pray that they are kept from harms way and keep the same mindset.
 
chiskop, can you read?

it says there are in johannesburg (insert new name here), have lot of crime, and think it is a bit silly that others are trying to rally the troops in London and convince them to come home.

Yes I did read that. But who's telling them that? People who have already made the move. Skinner is his usual fashion put some comment about the ANc below the article, this is not an instruction coming from the ANC or Govt - just from people looking for some validation of the choices that they have made.

Unfortunately the quoted part where the victims make a comment about the ANC, and which I commented on in response, was cut out by the Bwana the moderator.

On the contary, this is about people who live in SA, who voted ANC, and now feel they have been betrayed by their choices.

ok, stay with me here.

there is a expo called "homecoming revolution" held in london occasionally, to try temp people BACK to south africa.
so, people in london, working their heart out to get others to go back to motherland. and these workers for homecoming revolution stay in london and canvas s.a. people in the streeet etc, trying to give them info on how to return, help with documentation, blah blah

now, these folks in johannesburg (the ones in the article) reckon it is a waste of time having this homecoming revolution, because they reckon the country is fscked.

so to summarise in your words>>>>>>>>

people who are still in s.a. think it is a waste of time that others who have left s.a. are trying to get the rest to return

Where does it say anything about ANC in the news story? The lady is Indian, chances are she probably voted for DA/Minority Front.

Well it appears Skinner quoted the whole article verbatim, but it was trimmed by the moderator.

It's hardly his fault you didn't read it.

If you had you would have taken his comment in a completely different light, as I and others did.
