Suppose I should qualify my statement. :) Its great if you're young and going there for a couple of years, wouldn't really want to live their permanently.

That site is seriously dodge. OK obviously it's going to be a propaganda piece, but wow, this SA place sounds like the land of Milk and Honey. They honestly list "Don Jackie Selebe" and Taxi Drivers as a reason to come back. Now I understand that it's meant to be toungue in cheek, but it shows how disconnected these people are from reality.
 
I left my native UK three years ago and don't miss it one bit!

In the UK you might miss the sun just a little but this is usually only between October and May! Of course it'll be dark outside by 4.30pm in late October so you wont even see grey skies then!

Crime is much the same in the UK and there are parts of London where it makes JHB look quite tame!

May be Oz or NZ are better, but the UK 'aint all that!

Take a look at Sky News and see how many children have been shot by other children who have guns or the people shot accidentally just crossing the road in a residential street!
 
What a load of bollocks. So many people have invested and spent a lot of money leaving this country, what on earth gives the idea that they want to spend a cr@p load more money coming back? Let alone to an incompetently, badly run country?

Most of my friends are leaving. I don't know one person, or have heard of a person wanting come back. In fact, like a few other members on this board, i'm also planning on leaving

Sorry Bwana, I don't buy it. Leaving one line out (I presume the one referring to the ANC) makes not a jot of difference to copyright. Even Google was censured for offering single lines. You made a bad call for once.

The OP is more than able to go back and choose which paragraphs he'd prefer remained - that is what the edit button is for.

In the end I simply kept the first three paragraphs and 86'ed the remaining 16.

EDIT - here is the section referred to

Something doesn't make sense on that 'Homecoming Revolution' web site - all the jobs that they 'advertise', will only be filled after 2007? I don't get it.

Also, it's funny to see Ryk Neethling's 'testamonial' there - didn't they rob him of all his medals recently?
 
This homecoming thingy also doesn't sit well with me. I'm sure the government is sponsoring it. I hear they held a conference in London about 2 yrs back and 3 people turned up. Its all very artificial ..

Me neither, I doubt the government's directly sponsoring it but maybe the companies involved get preferential treatment on government tenders...

It just seems like a PR campaign more than anything else. If you want people to come back then change the fundamentals that made them leave in the first place, don't gloss over them.
 
i forget details, but last time i scratched around it was sponsored by governemnt and a bank.

like, said bank will help set up your new account, give you mortgage etc etc.
gov. will tax you.
everybody wins.
 
A friend of mine who's pulling two jobs in the States, who was a university Professor of Engineering here and had to live on a low salary - has recently been offered a post with
another uni back here.
 
The ANC is self serving - they will only ask you back if it is in there own interests - when they don't need your skin, err, skills, any more, bye!

When I am gone, that will be it - the ANC can kiss my shiny white ass.

I feel the need to make a move, and in terms of my other concerns I feel I can just as well make that a major move.

5) After all of those considerations, the advantages of living in a country with a higher quality of life (services, shopping, relative safety etc) is merely the icing on the cake, helping to soothe the stress of starting over in a new place all on my own.

I felt much the same, and did move to UK. But I came back, despite all logic, because this is home. And this is where my family is.

Don't underestimate those ties... but good luck :)

Now you have :p I left, I came back, and homecoming revolution are actually really helpful - there are always admin issues like how to convert your licence, or how to handle tax returns for the time you were away, and they helped sort out a lot of those of things for me.

You went back with your newly acquired foreign citizenship i hope? Bet you would not have gone back to SA if you had to forfeit your foreign passport?

Actually I had my foreign passport before I went over... but yes, I would have come back without it if I'd really had to.
