hi everyone,

i got uncapped/unshapped 1mb ( internet Solutions )line at home. Now since 2 days i am not able to open google sometimes.the line is terrible.
When i do a test speed (speedtest.net) i got 250 dow/300 up. with a ping on the server on jhb 124 ms . It never been so slow in 2 years contract i have with my isp. i living in pretoria.

Do IS got news policy ?
Does telkom doing something ?
Does somebody experiencing the same problem ?
what's happening ?

i know a couple of friend experiencing the same problem, but none of our ips can tell us what a hell is happening...they just say everything is fine in our side, contact telkom for more answer .

please help.

thank you

My ADSL speed fluctuates on a daily basis, luckily my bowls are more regular.

I have two clients in roodepoort with the same problem, pings to mweb take anywhere from 300ms-3s. Both are on IS bandwidth, one uses a static IP.

same here..

I have exactly the same problem on IS uncapped express 512k.
Located in pretoria east - Lynnwood ridge.

Can hardly browse local or international - performs worse than dialup. Pages take very long to load.
Emule upload speed graph looks erratic, never going over 4kb/s.

I've contacted webafrica and they said it was because of the verizon/saix peering link problem. I find this hard to believe, because this is IS bandwidth.

I've had to switch to SAIX account, as IS uncapped is basically unusable for the last 3 days. SAIX performs 100%.

Useless support at webafrica..

Just finished a lengthy (and useless) support call to webafrica.

This time they claim that the poor/non performance of the uncapped account is due to me reaching my 30gb threshold. This is utter BS! Being limited to 256k d/l will not result in google taking 15 sec to load (or not loading at all).
Why then is my upload speed so erratic, and never exceeding 4kb/s?? Is upload now throttled too?

Come on webafrica, get your facts straight please. Dont assume your clients are all fools.

R1300 a month for this?!?
Only in SA!

I've also been experiencing this on SAIX for the past 2 days. Probably just that time of the month, again...

I have been experiencing the exact same problem; I have a 512k express uncapped at OpenWeb and staying in Pretoria. The first time I phone they said Telkom is upgrading the JINX. To second time I phone they told me email support as there is an issue with the latency. When I emailed them I got a reply but nothing about latency. The email follows..
Greetings

You have been rate limited in accordance with the rate limiting policy
as specified on signup.

For complaints, please email the IS Uncapped Express Product manager
at [email protected]

I replied but no response. For now my business is standing still. My ISP redirects my issue as a complaint to IS. Which is sad to say that Keoma never started that business with the South African attitude of, “ish I don’t know, maybe the mouse is eating the cables “. I have seen OpenWebs head of engineering or something, many times on here, I would like if he could respond to our problems.
If we had some of the bigger end user packages made for international downloading why can’t they include the openbrowse after you reached your threshold. Sheet man google can takes 5min to load. Isn’t it bigger package = more benefit and support?

well at that price better to get a dial up, they stupid half the people are going to cancel uncapped...

i will wait some days and probably say bye bye to the unccapped particuraly the price i pay for 1mb/s. ( i can't open google for uncapped 1m/s this is a joke )

I got a reply,

Greetings

There have been reports about high latency which we have forwarded to
the IS engineers.

We have not received an update to this yet, but we assume its par of
the rate limiting process.

Its dangerous to make assumption though, one might be wrong!!!

Agreed, if this pathetic performance is as a result of 'rate limiting', then I'm cancelling mine too. Will wait a few days and see.

i wait the 10th, they should better check bcse i am my way to think to cancel that line.

512k Express uncapped IS.
I really want to read my e-mail, but cant access crap. Paying alot of money for my 56k line.
Reaching max 16-17 Kb\s on local files, int reaches 5 when I'm lucky. I thought they downgraded you to 64k line when going over 30 gigs (which I have somehow done?).

"I'm sure, like most South Africans, you are really tired of being limited to a certain cap! Why not take a look at our Uncapped ADSL range, and enjoy the freedom of Uncapped internet" <----- nice one

This is now a big problem! I have been looking at different ISP packages but cant seem to find anything similar to 512k Express uncapped. If anybody has ideas, please post it for me!!

According to the description of the IS uncapped express product:

"The service is allocated a certain threshold for the month which is divided into a 10 day rolling window. If you reach your 10 day threshold before the 10th day, your available bandwidth will be halved (e.g. 512 kbps will be reduced to 256 kbps). However, if your consumption is reduced, your bandwidth will be restored to the purchased level."

Since I have 512k express, and have exceeded my threshold, my bandwidth should be 256k (32kB/s). Please then explain the packet loss and excessive latency, not to mention the 5kb/s max uploads?

If this is as a result of rate limiting, then IS uncapped express is absolute rubbish. When I signed up I fully understood the concept of the rolling threshold, but as opposed to them halving your bandwidth, the service becomes totally crippled!!

It sucks to be us, when will they have this problem fixed?

According to OpenWeb:

"These accounts have no maxiumum usage and are ideal for heavy internet users or businesses who do not want to be restrained by caps and topups."

And yes maximum is a spelling mistake on their site!! So maybe maxiUmum means WE WILL GIVE THE MAXIuMUM USAGE IF WE PUT YOU ON DAILUP SPEED!!!
