Experiencing a very slow internet on IS

Since it seems to be only us.

I'm looking for alternatives, anybody have any ideas what we can get for around R1368 a month without these ridiculous thresholds.
 
i going to go for a contratc 12 month with no tresold, same price but the only problem 12 month contract .

You also got to pay the setup fee and your speed will never go higher than 512k if you have a 4meg line.

Well, for the Equivalent:

4096/512kbps + 15GB Shaped SAIX for R1312
4096/512kbps + 9GB Unshaped SAIX for R1312
4096/512kbps + 10GB Semi-Shaped for R1212
 
I am also with OpenWeb and have now experienced this BS threshold nonsense. I'm in Pretoria North.

I cannot even use my internet at home. I'm paying for a service I am not recieving. I get TONS of page timeouts, and sites don't even load properly. I CAN'T EVEN OPEN THE OPENWEB WEBSITES??!!! WTF!!!

Usually when I've reached my threshold, I restart my router and my speed is reset to normal 512K. But this doesn't work anymore. I even switched off my router and computer for the whole weekend from Friday morning till Monday night, hoping that when I returned it will be fixed, but Monday night comes and still the same problem or EXTREMELY SLOW internet.

I am also a looking for a new solution. If anyone finds any, please post here.

IS THRESHOLD SUCKS B@LL$!!!! What was wrong with their old policy? It worked better than this new one. I can't even use the internet at home. I have to do all my internet browsing at work.

I'm cancelling my package 512k express uncapped with OpenWeb today. I had emailed Keoma (OpenWeb Founder) yesterday(11 August 2008) and from what I understand, the implementation date of the policy was not communicated by Internet Solutions to their customers (a list of 20odd reselling ISP's). I think Internet Solutions had planned this from day one to secure some customers before Neotel launched their backbone, mid 2009. All ISP's affected are highly recommending 512k business uncapped with a reduced setup fee which involves a 12month contract. If one does take this contract, the fastest one can only download is at 512kb/s (64KB/s) download where all the Telkom lines are upgraded to 8mb/s (1MB/s) downloads.

I'm on the Axxess prepaid vouchers for now, which I will stay on until I find an ISP that can provide me with the similar package as OpenWeb did. Maybe in 7months the Neotel rumours of an 80mb/s uncapped fibre line for a cheaper 512k business uncapped satellite line will come true.
 
Just wanted to add my name to this list. I'm on OpenWeb Uncapped Express 512K. I have reached my threshold limit and thus should be throttled down to 256K speeds. I have had to reload the google homepage 4 times now to get it open. Thus far I have been unable to do any searches through any search engine without getting at least 3 timeouts. I cannot download my business email at all. I cannot get into my gmail.com account without it timing out. I recall my 56K dialup connection a few years back being able to load pages and images more efficiently than this. Feels like I'm paying for a service that is not working.

Very disappointed with this service and even more disappointed with the lack of communication regarding these problems from OpenWeb and/or IS. Telling us that we've reached our threshold is not an excuse, I should still be able to do decent browsing, mail downloading and browser downloads even if limited to 256K speeds.

My point exactly! Even if you are "rate limited" or "reached your threshold" you should still be able to do basic internet browsing. But this is not possible on the new IS policy.

Im using my prepaid webafrica account now and also will be cancelling my openweb uncapped 384k account unless IS make some changes to this threshold. I was fine with the previous policy, during the day threshold and normal speeds at night but this is just ridiculous because even than I was not getting speeds and timeouts like i am getting now.

MrBEEP: I have rebooted my router and looks like speeds are back to 512K. And I can open several websites in FireFox and none of them timeout. Before I couldn't even open 1 website without it timing out a few times. So it looks like things are back to normal. Whatever IS is trialing, please tell them to keep it like this.

Speeds I'm getting are roughly 433kbps download and 215kbps upload, which I can live with. What was bothering me was the page timeouts and being unable to use the internet.

As Dazzla states, I am also happy the old IS policy of threshold during the day and normal speeds at night and weekends. I can live with that.
 
Speeds are back to normal as if there is no threshold. What exactly is this trial?
It seems to me they have just removed the threshold but for how long??
 
Nothing is official yet, however, rate limiting will be dropped every night at around 20:00 and put back every morning at 08:00am. All weekend long there will be no thresholds :)
 
Mr. Beep, I take back what I said about lack of communication on OpenWeb's part. Very happy with your response and with the fix. I reset my router at around 8:40PM and everything seems to be working again. After almost a week of no internet I'm able to do all the basic stuff once more.

Out of interest may I enquire what the problem was, or more specifically what name we may give to this problem? Just so that if it ever happens again we know what exactly to complain about instead of having to build an entire thread about it :) My biggest concern now is whether or not this speed will last.
