What's the cheapest I can get three of these?

I've seen a Seagate FreeAgent at CNA for about R1799.00 - anything better/cheaper?

Yea that looks like the one.

What's a SAN? If I'm looking at 3+TB of space for my movies and stuff, what are my options? Hugely expensive? :/

Buy a samsung or WD 1TB drive from kalahari, add a decent enclosure and you have the best deal around, that's what I did and will just cost a little over R1000.

Edit:
noticed that the discount has ended so the 1TBs are not that cheap at kalahari.

I would suggest you to get a USB external with eSATA connection. Much faster then USB2 while copying.

You can get an adaptor to an internal port... Transfer a TB over USB, and C for yourself.

You were going to buy components from CNA??

SAN = storage area network (stand to be corrected)

nothing wrong with buying from cna IMHO,
i bought my ext 750g hdd from them, no problems yet..and it's esata
it was a bit pricey but i didnt have cash so i used my account.

If price is your main concern look here. I recently purchased 10 of these and no complaints so far.

Samsung 1TB external for R999 BTW.

i browsed gumtree earlier and there is a agent from specials for africa selling 2TB externals for R1299, TB for R799

Game is advertising the following:

  • R799.99 - Toshiba External HDD 1TB look here
  • R899.99 - Verbatim External HDD 1TB look here
  • R599.99 - Verbatim External HDD 500GB look here

I see Game is also selling Samsing I TB hard drives as well for 799.99 which is a good price.

that is a hot price for a 1TB!

Add an external case for R200 bucks and you're under a K.
