F1 2008

if he is a genius he should walk this season's championship and since he now has a year of f1 behind him i dont think he will waste a 20 or 30 point lead again
Why? Cos Kimmi is an imbicil? Naah... no-one's going to walk this year, the FIA won't allow it.

What a great response from DC...

What a great response from DC...

... should shut the little chipmunk up!! :D

Q: Did you hear David's threat on television...?
FM: I was a bit surprised, to be honest, because we are there to race. I tried to pass him. I was inside and he closed (the door on) me and we crashed. I think everybody knows two cars cannot be in the same place in a corner and usually the guy who's outside has more possibility to go off, so that's it.

Q: So you haven't apologised then?
FM: No, because I didn't do anything wrong. When I do something wrong, I will apologise but this time I don't need to.

Q: David, you haven't carried out your threat then?
David Coulthard: Well, no, and obviously apologies for my strong language but I was frustrated because...

SV: What was it? What was it? Can you repeat it?
DC: You can read it on the website. The reality is, in this situation, Felipe is not racing me for the World Championship so he can do the same manoeuvre for the next 17 Grands Prix and have the same result, because quite clearly my eyes point forward, they don't point rearward. He's got a much clearer view as to how much space there is and I didn't take a different line than I took any other lap so... I was fully prepared for him to pass me in corner three because a Ferrari has a much better top speed, it's a much quicker car. He made his choice. If he makes the same choice (again), he'll get the same result. I can't make my car invisible but as I say, I'm not fighting for the World Championship, he is, so next time he should wait until corner three.

no brad kimi is a great driver but not a legend

everyone is saying lewis is a genius, well lets just how great he is

look at shummi in the best car won title after title until f1 became boring and before alonso showed his true genius

now shummi was a genius who would win if in the best car no doubt, lets see if hamilton can do the same

aggg its an accident and it happens in F1 get over it and move on

coulthard did the same thing in that corner to someone awhile back

He's won quite a few actually. You heard of F3, GP2? Or you only know of F1?

this reply encompasses brad's one point comment as well:

let me use this analogy. there are many teams in soccer that have won the lower leagues in their respective countries but not the top division. I can assure that they can win those leagues as many times as they wish, but if they do not have the top division it means nothing.

if hamilton had to stop racing today do you think those titles would mean he is remembered? he could lose the next 10 F1 driver championships by one point and he will forever be a footnote in the history of the sport. there is only one title.

Another thing to consider is that Schumi (and Senna and Prost amongst others) probably have titles from below F1. However in all these cases they are know for how many F1 driver championships they have. No one mentions lesser titles as any sort of achievement. Didn't Jody Sheckter win some lesser title as well?

Oh I see, so because Serevi is a 7's specialist he isn't recognized or respected the world over and acknowledged as a genius in the sport, 7's being a abridged version of the 15 man game?

You don't think Jake on his cv mentions he coached champion U21 and U19 sides as well as World champions? And biseversa you don't think if Schalk Burger was applying for a job playing rugby for Biarritz he would mention on his cv that he captained the U21 world cup winning team?

I guess what I'm trying to say is how is an achievement at junior level/lower league any less of an achievement?

Ivan Lendl won every major tennis tournament but is remembered for his inability to win Wimbledon yet he was respected and considered one of the all time greats. a genius and rated no 1 in world tennis for many seasons so I disagree with your comment that losing the next 10 drivers championships by 1 point Hamilton would be reduced to a footnote in history, in fact that would be an awesome achievement consistently 2nd 10 years in a row by 1 point..He would be remembered forever for that...

I was fortunate enough over the years to watch Joe Van Niekerk, Brian Habana, Peter Muller, Ruben Kruger, James Dalton and James Small play school boy rugby before they became the icons they are so for you GP2 and F3 may be lower leagues but to me it's where all school boy racers like their rugby playing counterparts learn to ply their trade... And like Hamilton these rugby players stood out head and shoulders above their counterparts later to become icons in the sport...

So how many of them finish the season second with one point off the win in their top league debut? Cmon? Still waiting, I want an answer...

Mighty Massa heads Ferrari front row at Sepang
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa will start from pole position for the Malaysian Grand Prix for the second consecutive year, after lapping the Sepang circuit in 1m 35.748s in the final session of qualifying.

The fact that the Brazilian was half a second faster than team mate Kimi Raikkonen suggests that he was running less fuel, but either way the two of them seemed happy enough as McLaren’s best runner was Heikki Kovalainen in third.

Raikkonen posted 1m 36.230s, Kovalainen 1m 36.613s. Lewis Hamilton was fourth, on 1m 36.709s, which was just enough to beat Toyota’s Jarno Trulli, and the BMW Saubers of Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld, who were all closely matched on 1m 36.711s, 1m 36.727s and 1m 36.753s. You can bet that there are some fuel load discrepancies in there somewhere.

Mark Webber will start alongside Heidfeld on the fourth row, with 1m 37.009s, the stewards having agreed to let Red Bull’s cars run after Friday’s problems, while Fernando Alonso and Timo Glock share row five for Renault and Toyota respectively with 1m 38.450s and 1m 39.656s.

Q2 weeded out Jenson Button, who was nevertheless reasonably pleased with 11th fastest time for Honda of 1m 35.208s; Red Bull’s David Coulthard on 1m 35.408s; Nelson Piquet on 1m 35.562s for Renault; Rubens Barrichello in the second Honda on 1m 35.622s; Sebastian Vettel with 1m 35.648s for Toro Rosso; and Nico Rosberg for Williams on 1m 35.670s.

The leading Q1 faller was Giancarlo Fisichella, who took his Force India round in 1m 36.240s. Kazuki Nakajima hoped for better than 1m 36.388s which left him 18th (but he loses 10 places on the grid for his incident with Robert Kubica under the final safety car in Australia).

Thus Sebastien Bourdais gets 18th place on the grid in the second Toro Rosso (1m 36.677s), having spoiled his chances of getting into Q2 by sliding off the road in Turn Four on his final run. The Super Aguris of Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson were separated by Adrian Sutil’s Force India. Sato lapped in 1m 37.087s, Sutil in 1m 37.101s and Davidson 1m 37.481s; they will start 19th, 20th and 21st respectively.

Altogether, it was an interesting session, with the indication that Ferrari have an edge, and that McLaren will be relying on the start again to stage a repeat of last year’s success.

.

Breaking news on Sky, can't find any link yet, but apparently both McLaren's have been docked 5 grid positions for impeding other racers on the final qualifying lap. Hamilton now starts in 9th position.

Edit: Hamilton handed penalty

damn, well one thing is for sure it's going to be an interesting race, as long as hamilton scores some points at the end of the race i'll be happy, if you throw the rain in the mix there might be upsets and the position changes will be interesting, fingers crossed for rain tomorrow. :)

Yeah, rain will throw it open to the lower teams - especially since the top two don't know anything other than winning (which is a major weakness IMO). I agree Ghalied - it's about 8 or 6 points - anything more is bonus! Let's hope he can be pragmatic about it all this year and accept a second or third when a win will only take him out of contention... his one weakness is the carrot - winning a race becomes priority #1 and the season as a whole...
But then that's what makes him so exciting to watch too. I guess we can't complain about lack of excitement on the one hand then say 'take it easy and coast in second' on the other...
