F1 2011 thread

Ros dude massa is well past his prime, he has very rarely this season shown that he deserves to be a in ferrari but ferrari enjoy having a dominant driver with a medium to ok back up.

Honestly i wish hamilton would rediscover his form because he has the car but the car sadly does not the driver it had when hamilton burst onto the scene. I may not like him because everyone talks like he is the greatest driver ever but as a racer i think he is very good(this season is his rookie season but next year i hope that good racer will be back). Mclaren is the only team that could beat redbull and they always seem to F it up, whether it is hamilton crashing into people, bad strategy or silly technical problems they never get it right.

I think with button this season 3 times they have wrecked his race. Twice his wheel has come off and the last one they told him no your safe for qauli 3 and he ends up 13th. Hamilton only has himself to blame for his position this season, it is incidents like the massa one that have wrecked it for him. He can moan about the car but i think until he sits and looks at the real issue he will struggle. For some reason he cannot avoid an avoidable accident this season. Then again neither can michael he seems to see an avoidable accident and drool with anticipation of the impending doom :D. I think hamilton has the same problem. LOL the commentators were saying perhaps hamilton is too low in his car and he can't see that well haha, that is why he keeps hitting people :D. Maybe he needs to get his eyes tested.

Anyways hamilton at least gave us some entertainment in a pretty boring race.

Fresh tyres and DRS on a vastly superior car made overtaking on "that bend" almost as easy as taking candy from a baby

I just managed to get that comment, hope you mind me posting it but is the truth, not that i am saying hamilton didn't do well to get to 5th spot but with better tyres and a car 4-6 seconds fast it was not exactly as special as we have seen in the past. Amazing no, good drive yes. As mentioned though we all have our drivers and nothing anyone says will change our minds :D.

On the Hamilton issues, pages 10 and 11 of today's Autosport make a good read :)

McLaren insiders are becoming increasingly concerned with Lewis Hamilton's mindset and approach after the 2008 world champion's clash with Felipe Massa at the Singapore Grand Prix. His collision with Massa which occurred on lap 12 of the race when Hamilton misjudged the position of his car as he turned into Turn 7 after backing out of an attempted passing move, is the latest in a series of blunders he has made over the past 12 months.

I am not concerned about the blunders he makes i mean he is a rookie :p, in all seriousness those are just mistakes because he is not keen on f1 for the moment. The motivation is not there.

I would be more concerned by the radio message asking if he should bother racing anymore. That right there shows he has lost interest in the team and the sport, so mclaren need to give him a car capable of winning every gp or they will have another season with a driver that has no motivation, he is not used to it and not handling it well at all.

Personally I think he is shoving too much blame at McLarens door instead of getting on with making the best of what he has at any given point. His self belief of being the best driver on the grid is inconsistent with he driving performance.

None of the other true great GO drivers just lose motivation, that is also inconsistent with being a great driver, IMO. Sure they do in time, but that's after they have proven that they are, rather than one season of finding themselves in the best car.

Are you quoting him there or doing what you usually do and drawing your own conclusions? cause I watched the race and don't recall him making that comment.

In fact quite the contrary...
The 26-year-old Herts-born racer and Brazilian Massa both entered the pits together at the end of lap 11.

They exited at the same time, with Massa still ahead of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes ace in the sport’s spectacular night race.

Hamilton, on option tyres, tried to pass the Ferrari driver out on the Marina Bay street circuit, but lost part of his front wing in doing so.

Massa suffered a rear right puncture in the lap 12 collision and both men were forced to return to the pits for repairs, with Hamilton also opting for a set of prime tyres.

The FIA race stewards subsequently investigated the incident and penalised Hamilton with a drive-through for his part in the crash.

The McLaren pitwall told Hamilton: “We have been given a drive-through for the collision. We need to take it now, so box.”

After serving his penalty – his third trip through the pits in the opening 16 laps – Hamilton found himself back down in 16th place.

He asked the team over the radio: “Please keep me informed with info. Who am I racing, how fast am I going?”
We all know where the uninterested, demotivated driver finished the race. ;)

I am almost 100% sure he basically asked if there was any point and his engineer had to tell him there would be a safety car. He basically lied to hamilton at the end of the day and it came off but the point is hamilton was finished for the day.

Kayvee nobody has said hamilton is a great, a great does not get down and out when he isn't going well. A great sucks it up and does his best with what he has without blaming the car every race, in hamiltons case he is blaming the car for driving like a rookie. Go read some of button's interviews he keeps blaming errors but never the car. He knows how to struggle, hamilton doesn't. He needs to go drive for a midfield team for a couple season like someone mentioned.

Lap 21:
Lap 21 - "Please give me some information on what I'm doing, what I'm driving for," says Lewis Hamilton over the radio. "We're racing for points," his engineer lies in response and claims there will be a safety car. Pouty McPouterson is currently 15th, and fighting with Krazy Kamui Kobayashi.

Why would hamilton need to ask what am i driving for? it's lap 21 you have a mclaren the rest have tractors. Why would his engineer have to lie about a safety car lol, if it wasn't for that lie i wonder what hamilton would have done, come in and parked the car perhaps haha. The old hamilton would not have been asking he would have been driving the socks off his car but not this year. Even the commentators were shocked about it, did you watch the whole race sandman?

Lap 21: Hamilton asks his team if he is even racing for points and is told yes because "there will be" a Safety Car in this race. Interesting.

Now sandmann it's lap 21, how on earth could he think he was not racing for points? In the race he is often 2-5 seconds faster than the rest of the tractors, Now explain why someone would need to ask? Also the tone of his voice sounded like a beaten man but i guess you had to have heard it. When a driver has to get lied to by his engineer to push you must know something is not right with the guy, specially in hamiltons case. He stuck me a true racer and no matter what his position he would push, so i will still maintain his motivation is no longer there. Anyways believe what you like but my opinion is not because i don't like him, a good fast hamilton is good for f1 and i enjoy watching him drive but he is not motivated, you can see by the way he talks, walks and handles himself. That happy bubbly young rookie is gone and there is just a down looking fed up young man. Until he fixes his attitude he will continue to drive like a rookie. He can keep blaming mclaren for his issues but he should look at himself more. Mclaren either need to get him motivated or release him from his contract and get someone who won't have to ask if he should race on lap 21.

Again, you base your entire argument on how you've interpreted that conversation. "Please give me some information on what I'm doing, what I'm driving for,"To me it sounded like he wanted to know what the race strategy would be after the start they had and the drive thru penalty incurred. "We're racing for points," the answer suggesting team strategy puts the McLaren in the top 10..

You see a resigned, demotivated driver where others, including myself, see a frustrated but determined driver tired of playing catchup.

Despite the season he has had so far he is only 17 points off 2nd place, you do realize that...?

As button says if you finish second you may as well finish last in the championship, nobody remembers who finished second according to button and i think he is right. I think we both see the same frustrated driver tired of struggling, most of the struggling has been self inflicted. You say playing catch up but most of hamiltons problems this season have been self inflicted where as button has actually had issues that have cost the race. Hamilton has had the car this season to push redbull but he has looked tired and frustrated which is showing by the way he is driving. I also think back to quali when he pushes to over take massa and gets stuck behind alonso LOL. He risks an accident to get stuck behind another car. Seems logical.

Asking what you are driving for after 21 laps? WTF knows hamilton, put your car into first and fly my boy. Why are you asking us just drive FFS there are another 50 laps to go. What did he expect them to say well right now you look like you will finish out of the points. To me the answer is simple, drive like we know you can. Drive like the world champion you are. His engineer lied because he knew it was the only way to motivate hamilton. Did you hear the engineer tell hamilton there would be a safety car sandmann? His engineer straight up lied, granted there has pretty much always been one but he never said there should be or might be he said there will be.

Hmmm interesting comments from hamilton.
"Jenson's done an incredible job. I feel he's done a better job all season, really,' Hamilton said. "So even if I did a better job in the next five races it doesn't mean a lot to me. I mean, it's through a whole year.

“I think for me now it's just to find my ground and improve on the results that we've had in the last four races.”

So the next five races he doesn't care if he does better or not is what i read from that. Surely he should be saying well if i can finish strong i would feel i had a good season. Anyways maybe i am misreading his comments and hopefully we see the old ham back one day. I guess when he has a good car and doesn't need to struggle.

sandmanm34, did you read todays Autosport? Some interesting insiders perspectives on the situation.

McLaren deny Hamilton crashes are training for 'Vettel sabotage'
The McLaren F1 team have been forced to deny that Lewis Hamilton's crash-riddled season has actually been a training exercise to perfect his ability to ruin another driver's race in preparation for the title run-in.

Sebastian Vettel needs just a single point at the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka in two weeks time to clinch the 2011 title, even if McLaren's Jenson Button wins every single one of the remaining five races. But according to one McLaren insider, Hamilton's crash-addled season has in fact been part of the team's plans all along.

"Lewis can now lacerate an opponent's tyre on demand," the insider was quoted as saying, "And if that doesn't work, he can just launch himself into their sidepod at the next available hairpin. The plan is slowly coming together."

But despite the implication that Hamilton will now be used to cause Vettel's retirement from the final five races, giving Button the chance to secure the title, McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh has denied the claims.

"We here at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes would never consider such an action," he grinned while waving a mobile phone at some reporters, "We are committed to winning the final five races, and giving Lewis and his Vodafone McLaren Mercedes car the best chance of success."

He went on to add: "Now, can I talk to you for a few minutes about Vodafone?"

But the reports of Hamilton's kamikaze mission at the end of the season were heightened after the Singapore GP, when the McLaren driver was reportedly spotted after the race watching re-runs of Ayrton Senna's start at Suzuka in 1990, and muttering "So that's the line I'll need to take," under his breath.

Yup it makes sense

LOL but those are real and might have happened :D. Knowing alonso it could very well be true

I have got the f1 GP loaded up and i will download it and give you the exact word for word :D. Will check it in the morning must go get some sleep.

What i am racing for, the commentator says he basically asked if there is any point.

Please give me some info, what i am racing for. We are racing for points lewis there will be a safety car, look after these tyres. Then they go on to laugh about the lie they told to him about the safety car.

LOL hamilton gets some of his own medicine with shummi and webber over taking and wrecking his lap like he did to massa :D

Classic stuff bwhahahahaha, boy he looked pissed and shummi had a naughty little smile on his face when he went in to get weighed :D. Pity there was no replay. Shummi down the inside webber round the outside must have been awesome to see.

As usual the pole master does it against all odds :D
