F1 2012 thread

Vettel you beauty! :P Glad he found his form again. Have to give this one to Raikkonen, was a sublime drive, Vettel just defended to well.Shock for the McLaren boys. Don't quite now what to make of this season, the weather really makes it difficult to say what will happen :D

Hey Killa our man showed how to drive from pole!

Yup apparently it's so easy to win from pole :D. Looks at hamilton's two pole and wonders hmmmmmmmm it is that easy?

Vettel drove such a good race. It's really interesting to note that qualifying 1st or 11th doesn't matter much at bahrain :D. No idea what happened to shummi, fresh tires and he did nothing. Rosberg wow some of the most shocking driving i have seen and he should be punished for the hamilton and alonso incident. He moved twice with alonso, first he tried to drive him off the track then he came across to defend the line. Hamilton like alonso had no choice but to go off road.

Grosjean also drove a great race, mclaren need to fix that issue or change their hardware because it's breaking too often now. I would imagine after the first long stop hamilton had damage on the left rear.

I am little concerned about mclaren's race, they seem to go backwards in the race. I know about the pitstop issues but that car doesn't seem to show the same pace you see in quali.

Been a stonking season so far. Probably already seen more over taking this year than the whole of last season. Highly entertaining so lets hope it continues in this vain.

McLaren tactically naive once again this weekend.

Rosberg had a wider racing line. Even on normal laps he used that racing line.
Will be surprised if Rosberg gets punished.

Wider as in the whole race track wider? He might get away with the hamilton incident but i doubt he will escape the alonso one, he drove him off the track and made more than one defensive move. He should have got a stop and go but a 10 place grid drop would also be justice.

Yea sandman by far the most entertaining season ever, can you remember the days when there was no boost button and no drs, omg a bore fest of note now even the bahrain type races are exciting.

I remember Mansell and Patrese in 1992 driving everyone to sleep. Shumacher and Irvine/Barrichello did the same a few years later. Things are much, much better now.

So, no penalties for Rosberg. I'm with Alonso on this one: "I think you are going to have fun in future races! You can defend position as you want and you can overtake outside the track! Enjoy! ;)))" (on twitter)

I lost a lot of respect for Rosberg today; seems having that other German arse as a team mate is starting to rub off on him. :/

Rosberg didn't push anyone off the track, that WAS his racing line, he is allowed to move in his racing line and allowed one move to defend, hence he was not penalised.

Seems it is just as well Eskom decided to do maintenence on Sunday. I would not have been a happy chappy to see Rosberg do that. If I understand what has been said here, you are allowed to defend your position, but it should never involve forcing someone off the track.

I must try and watch the highlights on youtube....

Make up your own mind...

Seeing it again I have to grant that neither Lewis nor Fernando were close to having any part of their car alongside Nico, but I still think it is utterly dangerous and unsportsmanlike behaviour. Notice the plumes of dust kicked up especially with the first incident - Haldex's excuse of it being a 'normal' racing line is balls. Also note how quickly Rosberg scampers back to the normal line.

He might've escaped punishment, but he has taken a dive in my estimation for what it's worth.

He clearly runs alonso off track then he makes another defensive move. He practically blocked the entire road from both sides.

That is just crazy in my opinion. can you image we see more of that how will people overtake if drivers are able to block an entire straight one way and then the other way .

How do you get your car along side another car when the entire road is blocked off?

Do you see a difference in Nicos racing line in both those incidents? No.

Every time Rosberg was in this corner, even with Diresta, he used that racing line.
When Direst was chasing him 1second behind, he used that racing line, when Diresta tried to pass him he used the same racing line.

When you come out of that corner at speed chasing, you want to keep the car as straight as possible, hence Lewis and Alonso kept to the outside.
All the drivers knew there was concrete on the sides and the GP2 drivers exploited it in the previous race. Hamilton gained a place on Nico using the concrete, outside the white line.
It was Hamilton and Alonso trying to be smartasses.

But anyway, hope the FIA sees it like I do.

It's all about interpreting the regulations:

20.3 More than one change of direction to defend a position is not permitted. Any driver moving
back towards the racing line, having earlier defended his position off‐line, should leave at least
one car width between his own car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner.

20.4 Manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as deliberate crowding of a car beyond the
edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction, are not permitted.

If that wasn't Rosberg performing an abnormal change of direction I don't know what would qualify. That wholly aside, it was still unsportsmanlike and dangerous.

So 4 races into the year, there were 4 different winners.
Now that McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes and now RedBull won a race, what are the odds of a Lotus win in Spain?
When was the last time there were 5 different winners from the 5 1st races I wonder.

So far a very interresting year.
