That o didn't see coming. I thought the guy didn't do too bad in a rather uncompetitive car.

I agree. A bit of a lacklustre start to the season, but he has managed to outshine Button of late.

Wow, that one came out of left field, completely unexpected.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Button gets to stay while he gets sacked. That is just crazy absolutely flippen crazy. I hope mclaren have such a rubbish car next year that they cannot even make the top 15 bunch of beeping beep beepers.

That is possibly the worst news i have heard in f1 for a very very long time :(. Senna no doubt being the worst but perez was doing so well. Bunch of ass0's

Have lotus replaced kimi for next year? I hope maybe perez gets the nod. Finally found a driver to actually support and he is gone :(.

A Driver that can't even keep up with Button doesn't really deserve a drive in F1. Button is no slouch but McLaren need a driver thats fast. Kobayashi qualified better than Perez last year, and got screwed due to having less tires, and then sauber made the places for Perez with strategy. He never deserved the McLaren drive. McLaren should have taken Hulkenburg last year.

Bottom line is Magnussen is probably a bit shinier then Perez. Hopefully he can prove himself. It all means squat though if they're trailing in the second half of the pack.

Lawl!
Perez was beaten by Button most of the season... and Button didn't exactly shine either.

Kovalainen will replace Kimi at the last 2 races of the season.

Lotus has confirmed Heikki Kovalainen will stand in as Kimi Raikkonen's replacement at the final two races of the season, saying he offered the "experience" the team needs in its battle for third place in the constructors' championship.

Raikkonen is undergoing back surgery in Salzburg this week in order to ensure he is fully fit for his move to Ferrari next year. The Finn only made his plans public at the weekend, giving Lotus less than a week to secure a replacement for the US and Brazilian Grands Prix.

Kovalainen, who has six years of experience in F1 between 2008 and 2012, was chosen over Lotus reserve driver Davide Valsecchi as the team did not feel the Italian had the experience to deliver the results it needs to challenge Ferrari in the constructors' standings.

"Obviously we had to move quickly following the news of Kimi's non-participation in the final two races of this season, and we found ourselves facing a difficult decision in terms of who should take the wheel in Austin and São Paulo," team principal Eric Boullier said. "On the one hand we had our reserve driver Davide Valsecchi - who is a talented young driver that has shown a great deal of promise - and on the other we had the opportunity to bring in a seasoned Formula One competitor in Heikki.

"Whilst we have every faith in Davide's abilities, we are obviously involved in a tight Constructors' Championship battle, so it was decided that the experience Heikki could bring to the team would be invaluable as we aim to finish the year in the best position possible."

In order to secure the drive, Lotus and Kovalainen had to negotiate a quick release from the Finn's current Caterham contract, which has seen him take part in six of this year's Friday morning practice sessions.

"We must thank Tony Fernandes and Caterham F1 Team for their professional conduct in allowing Heikki to join us for the final races of this season," Boullier added.

Kovalainen made his debut with the Lotus team when it was under Renault ownership in 2007 and is hoping that will put him in good stead when he races over the next two weekends.

"It is a fantastic opportunity for me to join Lotus F1 Team for the final two races of 2013. We've seen this year that the E21 is a car which can win races and finish on the podium, so I will be pushing hard for the best results possible.

"Jumping into a car so late in the year when you have not been competing in the races all season will be a challenge, but I know the team at Enstone well so I have no concerns about getting up to speed. This is a great opportunity for me, so I would like to thank Tony Fernandes and Caterham F1 Team for allowing me to take advantage of it."

I am not a vettel groupie, i am hoping next season to see vettel get a car similar to what hamilton has so we can test how he handles a poor car, hamilton never said he wanted someone else's car. I cannot recall anyone else making a comment like that.

Scot you can't seriously be saying the ferrari is a piece of shyte. I guess those teams with no points might be an option for alonso, he needs to get away from a race winning car and all those podiums, geez why does he drive that piece of shyte ferrari. Silly, i blame his manager for failing to secure a drive at the back of the field this season.

Inferior to the Red Bull.
Inferior to both Lotus & Mercedes in the past 3 races.
Has recently found itself having to overcome a Force India or two and Hulkenberg's cash-strapped Sauber.

Maybe not a piece of doodoo, but definitely not a great car.

Perez through to top 10 shootout in USA. Button fails again.
A driver who cannot keep up with Perez doesn't really deserve a drive in F1.
Unfortunately Button is too much of a slouch.
Sure the 2013 McLaren is rubbish, but Perez is out qualifying and out racing Button in the 2nd half of the season.
I agree with what Gary Anderson commented on yesterday. Something like "McLaren agree that this years car is not great, but they would have seen better results if Hamilton was in the car".
McLaren may regret firing the wrong driver in favour of Magnusson.

Button and Perez are the same. i would rather go with Perez because he pushes to the limit and is not afraid.
In qualifying Button complained about balance but Perez pushed the car to q1. Mclaren will regret the decision. Button is just an average driver who complains a lot. He bacame a World champion by driving an "illegal" car.

Hope Lotus hires Hulkenberg and not the untalented Pastor.

For a Ferrari it's a terrible terrible car... I watched the SkySports coverage of yesterday and they interviewed Domenicali and when asked if he would be glad to see the back of the car he replied,'you know I'm not a liar and yes I will be glad.'

Erm... and yet Button has 50% more points than Perez. What season are you watching?

Hopefully it continues to rain at Interlagos. That way we might get to watch a race where there might be several drivers in with a chance to win the race. Another Vettel-fest is not what i'm looking forward to.
