F1 2013 thread

Never had a chance to watch the race:(, but I am hoping it was as good one.

Vettel was 2.8 seconds ahead by the start of the 3rd lap. He lapped up until 6th place. The only excitement was Massa making passes after a shocking weekend up until the race.

F1 Canadian Grand Prix: Crane Kills Marshal
An "unfortunate accident" is blamed for the death of a marshal shortly before the end of the Formula One race in Montreal.

A marshal at the Canadian Grand Prix was killed when he was run over by a mobile crane during the closing stages of the race.

Race promoter Francois Dumontier said the man was walking beside a crane as it moved Esteban Gutierrez's Sauber car, which had hit a wall at Montreal's Gilles Villeneuve circuit.

He said the worker tripped and fell, but that the crane operator could not see the man and drove over him.

"It's terrible," said Mr Dumontier. "It tarnishes the superb weekend that we had. I am devastated to learn this. I don't have any other words."

Gutierrez wrote on Twitter: "My dearest condolences to the family of the marshal who lost his life today, our prayers for him and his family."

British McLaren Mercedes driver Jenson Button also took to Twitter, writing: "Shocked and saddened by the news that a marshal who is there to keep us safe has lost his life during our race. Rest in peace my friend."

Formula One's governing body the FIA released a statement hours after the race saying the marshal, a member of the Notre Dame Automobile Club, had died in hospital from the injuries he sustained.

The statement did not identify the marshal but said he was "the victim of an unfortunate accident".

"The worker was helping to recover a car which had stopped during the race," it said.

"The recovery vehicle had lifted the car to return it to the pits and while doing this the worker dropped his radio and attempted to pick it up.

"As he did this, he stumbled and was hit and run over by the recovery vehicle."

The FIA said the worker was transferred by helicopter to the Sacre-Coeur hospital in Montreal for treatment but his injuries were too severe and he died.

The statement added: "The FIA, l'Automobile Club de l'Ile Notre Dame and the Formula One Grand Prix du Canada want to communicate their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim."

It is the first death in Formula One since another marshal, Graham Beveridge, was fatally injured in the 2001 Australian Grand Prix.

Sad news, poor guy. :(

Yip!
Vettel lapped Kimi in the 35th lap, Kimi was 8th when Vettel lapped him.
Awesome race, everyone pushed hard, Vettel even though he was in the lead constantly lapped in the 1 18s.

Vettel always likes to shows what he is capable of, rather than cruising. His concentration did lapse twice but overall a great drive.

The question is - have redbull found the magic with the tyres?

Hate to say it, but the two Ferraris were the only interesting cars on track.... Massa actually was the most entertaining. I hate the prospect of seeing a "Schumi type era" with RB's lapping everyone up to almost 4th? And very disappointed in the Lotus performance.

So, I wonder if the rumors of Kimi going to RB in Webbers place next year are actually true or just BS?

Like I said earlier today, Vettel is the 2013 World Champion. Mercedes go backwards, McLaren are miles and miles off the pace, Lotus will eventually fall behind in terms of development (they've already admitted that they cannot even keep two cars developing at the same pace) and Ferrari have yet to find consistency. By the time someone is Red Bull/Vettel's equal or maybe even better, he'll already have a nice buffer.

Raikkonen may very well leave. His ability is superior to what Lotus will be able to offer him. Webber is pretty much done. I don't think Raikkonen would mind being in a team with an Alpha driver. The question is, how would Vettel react to that and how will the team work with two very fast drivers as it is pretty clear Vettel is munero uno.

Vettel & Raikonnen are pretty good buddies, they regularly play squash together. I think the question here is, can Vettel manage a team mate who can drive very well, with the cool "bugger off" attitude ?

Tyres played no role in the Canadian GP.
I think Sutil managed 46 laps with little to no tyre degradation.
They used Pirellis new tyre if I remember correctly.

no the new tyres have not been used yet, due to the rain at Canada on Friday and Saturday they haven't tested the new tyre properly and it doesn't look like the new tyres will be used till after the British event.

The lower track temps in Canada was the reason for such good tyre wear. Cars like Lotus couldnt get enough heat into them (along with the break issue for Kimi). The new compounds will be used in the British GP.

This season is such rubbish, there is no racing, it's all bloody looking after your tires.

May as well put one of us in the cars, we will keep those tires in good shape :D. if they don't get this tires issue sorted i am done with f1 this season. Last season was epic, proper racing. Someone said early in the season the tires and the racing seem manufactured or something along those lines and that person was spot on.

Bring back slicks and make the tires last, the drs will help pass. Vettel is becoming like michael, i like him one of the best drivers but i am sick of him winning title after title. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so frustrating :(.

I don't like hamilton but i was hoping he would push for the title and perhaps win it, something different.

I think they should give all cars a 2000hp limit and a tyre width restriction, manual gear box's, and less down force. Now that would be interesting :D

Thank f.... Mark Weber has announced his retirement! Makes me think ... Kimi does not have a contract with any team as yet for next year ... ooo the possibilities! Is Lewis signed in for Merc?

I'd rather take one of the Toro Rosso drivers. They're younger than Kimi and both are clearly fast (Toro Rosso have become an upper midfield runner). Kimi has a small window to work with at 33 while JEV and Ricciardo have time on their side. Also, Red Bull won't manage two Alpha drivers. Not with Vettel's ego.
