F1 2014 thread

So the whole ant-eater concept, I am assuming that the design has some major relevance ito aero or some other important factor, especially that we have seen so much focus on the nose and front wing.

Thinking to the grid, everyone at the start will be poep sacred to go close, you damage the nose and pitting is inevitable. On the flip side, a quick pit and your competitiveness is restored, so there are goods and bads.

Force India grind to a halt in front of him at Dry Sac.

Just before it did so, he managed to snap this picture of it moving. And we assume that's a portaloo in the frame as well.

So the whole ant-eater concept, I am assuming that the design has some major relevance ito aero or some other important factor, especially that we have seen so much focus on the nose and front wing.

A certain width of the front of the car has to be lower than the safety tub of the cars to stop the nose of the car being an arrow that can pierce into where the driver is. However if the whole nose was that low it spoils the airflow under the car to the diffusers. So designers have stuck the penii on the front to comply with the reg while not completely cutting the air off from under the car.

Hamilton's first flying lap in Jerez is a 1m33.305s.

Fastest lap at Jerez at the last GP in '97 by HH Frentzen in a Williams was 1m23.135s.

Lets see how things unfold.

Hamilton creashes

AUTOSPORT's spotters on the ground confirm that it was a front wing failure Mercedes are referring to.

It shattered well before Turn 1 and left Hamilton a helpless passenger, in much the same way as Fernando Alonso's wing broke in Malaysia last year.

Hamilton was able to climb out the car and appeared unhurt.

That's a worry... I see he's set a 1:27 in the end. Nobody really pushing.

Well, it's 'testing' after all; times won't mean much, especially not today's.

As for Lewis' crash: seems the front wing failed, wedged under the car and lifted the front tyres off the road. Scary stuff.
