Well, of course it is. Cape Town isn't much further behind except it has that mountain everyone fawns over and the Winelands.

I've been to Jhb, and stay in Cape Town, it's much better this side. Our roads and general infrastructure is in better shape, by a country mile. Chances of being highjacked are also most probably less.

If you were a real race fan you'd want to see it live, before you know the result.
It's hardly once in a lifetime, for very little expense I could go watch the British, Belgium, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Monaco, German or Austrian GP.
I see no fun in being in hours long queues to get in and out, queues for toilets and food and missing most of the race while being stuck in the sun or rain. It's something that presumptuous fans *REAL FANS WHO CAN AFFORD TO* do and think it makes them special adds to their travel experiences.

Why don't you treat it as an experiment? You have an untested hypothesis, so get off your arse and go attend a race, and then you'll know for sure.

I wanted to go to Silverstone last year but the ticket prices just put me off. Mental. Not paying £400 for that.

Almost 40 years later I can still remember my dad taking me as a young kid to Kyalami. I remember how we arrived the Friday. I can remember the colour of the blanket we strapped with masking tape to the cement seat on the stand to hold our place for the next day.
I remember how either we were allowed to walk through the pits that evening or we slipped in. I remember they let me sit on a huge back wheel of a dark blue F1 car.
I remember how we slept in the back of the Passat that night, but did not sleep much because I was so excited.
I remember our seats was somewhere in the middle of the track, yet I got scared when I heard those engines start without even seeing them and how the sound just got loader and louder as they came closer to where we were sitting.
Memories that I will share with my grandkids one day.

But hey, that's just me. Some "suur drol" will have fond memories of sitting at home playing Sega mega drive with his dad on the tv . Rather than cueing for a kakhuis.

Exactly this. Had his car not failed he'd very likely won. It's sad to see Mercedes being so poor at the moment. Their car needs improvement.

I am not sure Verstappen would have won to be honest. Le Clerc never looked in any form of bother the entire race.
Checo was a beast though against those Mercs. Left Hamilton standing still in a non-DRS zone. Same with Russell.

Merc is bad, AMR is terrible (no idea how they went backwards so fast with the car), and Williams are OK. McLaren seem to have improved the most. I wish Alpine had more pace, because Alonso looked to be on a monster of a lap in Q3 before his car failed.

Well, he has shown to be very overly aggressive in the past when things aren't going his way, I have no doubt that will start coming out again soon. Time will tell, I'm open to being wrong.

Being aggressive on the track is part of being a racing driver (here I can insert quotes from any driver worth their salt). It's when the guys take it off the track that it gets ugly.

Yeah, you have opened yourself up to being wrong. Both guys seem to be willing to race hard but fairly.
I suppose though, there was only one guy causing the crashes last year...

It's weird to think I live 30km away from Zandvoort, 250km from Spa and many tracks are a cheap plane ticket away and yet I still couldn't be bothered to go and see the race in person.

Something wrong with me, but I'm with Dave on this one: big screen tv, comfy couch...

i would love to be at old trafford or anfield or any england stadium one day cos thats where the madness is

When a new dual start, it normally goes great it the beginning, then later when championship is getting tight and tensions go up, the gloves will come off.

But man the Max and Baas Leclerc battle is starting to remind me of Prost, Senna days. The smooth operator against the kamikaze pilot

yeah max only tried the 1 time to overtake and leclerc defender

Not according to the stewards, each crash was partly blamed on both.

Their 2020 car was basically a 2019 copy-paste of the Mercedes, so that was always a false dawn.

There are rumours that Lawrence Stroll's management style is a problem and one of the factors that influenced Otmar Szafnauer's decision to leave. Stroll is said to be far too involved in things and things he doesn't know enough about to be making and influencing decisions. Word is he even sits in on technical discussions. Szafnauer called it out as micromanagement before he left.

Under Vijay Mallya, Szafnauer had complete control over the team's operations and in his own words, was allowed to build the team and hire the people he wanted while Vijay enjoyed the show and spectacle of F1. With Lawrence Stroll, it appears to be the complete opposite as he wants to have his finger in every pie.

So AMR's issue appears to be Daddy Stroll making and influencing bad decisions.
