F1 2022

Yes, I did watch that as well as FP1.
For the qualifying debacle that Verstappen had, he did brilliantly to monster past Sainz (who is still trying to prove himself with Ferrari...just not as quick as Le Clerc right now). Then, with the RBR's straight line speed it became a matter of time before he overtook Le Clerc.
Pity Checo's car was down on power as it would have spiced things up. Good race by the top 4.
Pity that Bottas clipped the wall when he was in 5th as it gifted the 2 slower Mercs places they wouldn't necessarily have gained.
What Gasly was doing when he took out Norris is anyone's guess, and Mick had a brain fart. Both he and Seb were on for points and really Seb deserved points after driving the hell out of that AMR (cold fuel...? Never heard of that before).
The track? Not bad, but street races aren't the future are they? Hopefully not...

Does the above help?

That's crap, Russel was on new rubber, neither Bottas or Lewis would've been able to keep him back so he didn't gift them anything, Russel would've passed him anyway, Ham also had a chance since he was eating into Bottas's lead anyway. As much as I like Bottas I right both Merc drivers over him.
. <-- that's the point...you're waaaaaaaaaaaay off somewhere else the minute your guy gets called out. Again...seems like your opinion matters, and matters alone. Nobody else can have one.

Join us in the real world.

Yeah, no sorry, Your idea of calling someone out was pulling an unnecessary race card. Back to racing, Gasly was fckng up as he should've foreseen his slow speed could catch someone off-guard, he ruined Lando's race.

Only watched the end of the race now, and the interviews.

RB were just too fast for Ferrari.

Eish, Lulu throwing his team under the bus with the strategy comments...

Russell drove brilliantly, ditto for Albon.

Alonso clumsy with that move on Gasly, age perhaps showing through?

Mick the new Torpedo?

haha you missed the radio during the race:

Engineer: Lewis do you want to come in for tyres or stay out?
Lewis: I don't know man. Don't ask me to make those decisions, that's your job
Engineer: Ok, stay out.

many minutes later:
Lewis: Oh man strategy hasn't been kind to me

Mattia Binotto had almost a smile when saying that RB have had a few upgrades and Ferrari basically still running the same car from the start. So with budget caps things could get interesting later on in the season.

Does not guarantee any upgrades will see improvement, but still leading drivers and constructors without upgrades is not a bad position to be in.

We race as a team though, right?

I really don't enjoy Barcelona... that track should be removed

I see Albon got P9 and not P10 as initially set - pretty awesome drive from him. Outclassing Latifi again. Piastri must be rubbing his hands in anticipation (if rumours are to be believed)

Personal comments aside, Lewis has been fairly unlucky with yellow flags and such this year.

Overall it's been a good season so far. Seems the changes to the cars are working, even though it is basically a 2-horse race so far. Some nice racing in the midfield and even Williams and Haas making good moves and having decent results.

Yip, the season would be even better if McLaren could get their car sorted, I wouldn't mind seeing Lando and Ric up there with the top guys.

Yea if Lando and Ric can get sorted it'll be a good time. It's not a great time to be Perez or Sainz though, krikey.

Unless Piastri has money, it isn't going to happen.

Latifi is essentially bankrolling that team

Do they still NEED the funds given Dorilton capital?

McLaren are an enigma this season, First few race they were totally off the pace - then they found pace and then they fell off again - its bizarre

Dorilton stabilised them, but they still need sponsorship money, as every team does.

Dorilton isn't going to run that team entirely out of their own pocket.

EDIT: I stand corrected. Apparently they can operate without a pay driver. So maybe they do sack Latifi.

Williams: We don't need F1 pay drivers any more

Williams team principal Jost Capito says that the Grove-based squad is in a luxury situation of being able to choose who it wants for 2022 – rather than having to worry specifically about income.

“I think we at Williams, we are in the position that we solely decide on the drivers,” explained Capito. “We are not dependent like in the past on somebody, a driver who brings money.

“We have a long-term plan to get back to the top, and we have to choose the drivers that fit into that plan. We are just thinking about this. Of course everybody can talk to us, but the decision is with us.”

Yeah, it's been great to see a change in the protagonists.

I still think it's too early to write off the Mercs.

Neither Ferrari or Redbull are running away with it at the minute... Max's 2 DNF's deprived him of some serious points but he is dominating now. Perez not quite in the same league so RB not seeing those 1/2 finishes that dominant teams usually enjoy....

Still early doors. One feels a lot will still happen this season. Don't think it will reach the heights of last year though. That was just insane!!!

Unfortunately Checo had an engine issue this race otherwise it might very well have been a 1-2 this weekend. Nothing he could do about that personally.

Statistically, Checo has a 4% chance of beating Leclerc in an outright race.

Incidentally, 79% of statistics on the internet are made up.
