Bigger runoffs needed at kyalami?! WTF
Compared to say the runoffs at Monaco or any of the other street circuits?

Think they're more lenient for street circuits.

But the runoff issue isn't new. 3 years ago Toby Venter said that to reach Grade 1 they would need to invest heavily in tecpro barriers, and also extend the runoff at T1.

They should just dig a big sand bed into the runoff area.

Been following this news break on Twitter.

Mercedes are F'ed. Red Bull are gonna rock out with their c@cks out and Ferrari are going to have to come up with a plan faster than their engine department can on this one.

Merc cried and the FIA answered. Just not the answer MB would've wanted.....

As they say in the classics, "Be careful what you wish for"......

Newey for Designer of the Year award?

As an aside, I read somewhere that the design of the Merc has too much car length at the rear. Apparently they had to lengthen the gearbox or rear crash structure as part of this design philosophy. The theory is that this could be the fatal design causing the bouncing in the rear. It got quite technical thereafter.

In the weekly YouTube Merc race debrief, James stated that the porpoising is resolved but now bouncing is the major issue. There really isn't a quick fix.

Well I called that one yesterday morning:
The only way FoM or the FIA are going to get the rules changed is to introduce a new safety ruling, which can be decreed and not voted in, that limits the vertical G force experienced as a result of Porpoising to Less than 0.65G.
MB will then be forced to raise the ride height and loose speed.
Probably not fair on MB, and I am a MB fan, but any other rule change would be doomed to failure as the Council will not get a unanimous agreement from all teams.

...I don't think those no-pods are doing what Merc thought they'd do either. Unless they become a significant factor if they sort out their porpoising!?!

And no longer cheaper to drive

Won't be that expensive, if you can drive up from Cape Town and sleep by family, it shouldn't be R25k, should be much cheaper. Depending on ticket prices, here they'll sell out regardless of price very quickly.

So, this is what I've never understood. He qualifies 1st, and then drops down to 11th. BUT he has effectively ended someone's run possibly to the top 10. I'd feel very peeved if I ended up 12th, missed Q3, and could have made P10 in Q3.
If he doesn't have a chance to qualify, what position do you drop him from? Also, nobody has been denied a chance of a top 10 start as everyone has an equal opportunity in q1 and q2. Furthermore, the guy who only qualified 11th is bumped up to 10th.

Yes, true. Just something I've always wondered about. Hopefully this hasn't triggered anyone!

As painful as the penalty is, they don't have a complete understanding of the cause of the failure in the 1st place.

did you miss this post?
