F1 2024

Six sprint races will again be held in 2024 during next year's 24-race F1 season. As in 2023, sprint races will again be held in Austria, the United States (Austin), Brazil and Qatar in 2024. However, two new events will feature a sprint race: China and Miami.

Lol, assuming the race even goes ahead. They just can't stop making viruses there.

Sargent confirmed for Williams next year.

That effectively halves the development budget.
I doubt he'll last beyond the winter break. And will be replaced by Lawson for the second half of the season

Sargent confirmed for Williams next year.
Not surprised. They have someway to go as far as development goes before they're ready to prioritise driver choice. Being the only American has some benefit in the interim and if he improves well then an added bonus.

Lawson has a RB seat soon enough. Doubt he'd take a seat elsewhere especially considering RB's current performance.

Pirelli will take its softest Formula 1 tyres to next year’s Australian Grand Prix: https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/pirelli-goes-softer-for-f1-2024-australian-grand-prix-/10554136/

"With the Italian company electing to stick with its current tyre specification for next year, teams are already well-versed on their behaviour.

So, with little more to understand about the different tyres, Pirelli has already committed to its compound choices for the opening three grands prix of next season.

Having decided against having a sixth C0 compound – the hardest in its selection in 2023 – Pirelli will take the C1, C2 and C3 to the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, and will move a step softer for the second race in Saudi Arabia, which will feature the C2, C3 and C4. These are identical selections to this year.

The bigger change will take place for the third round of the championship in Australia, which will now run with the softer C3, C4 and C5 compounds.

As well as the move hopefully reducing the tyre warm-up problems that impacted the late stages of the race this year, Pirelli hopes the shift will open up more strategic options as well. ..."

Toto Wolff at centre of riot: heavy accusations from competition: https://www.gpblog.com/en/news/251842/toto-wolff-in-dispute-conflict-of-interest.html

"... Teams in F1 suspect the Wolff couple of exchanging confidential information among themselves. Some unnamed team bosses are said to have already indicated to the FIA that they are troubled by the conflict of interest. According to Business F1, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem is aware of the growing concerns. ...

The magazine spoke to several team bosses - on condition of anonymity. They refer, for example, to a consultation at which Wolff was also present, who suddenly told something that could only have been known thanks to having heard it from a source within the FOM. One team boss - known to have had a series of conflicts with Wolff - said: "They're saying, 'Hey, we can go and have an internal meeting', and the next thing, it's all over Greg Maffei's (boss of Liberty Media) desk because Toto told his wife, who in turn told Stefano [Domenicali], who's told Greg Maffei."

The team boss closed with: "Stefano's going to know what we said within 30 seconds." Another team boss also responded: "I believe it is illegal. I honeslty believe it is illegal. Certaintly, there's a massive conflict of interest at public company level. Apart from that I believe it's highly unethical."

According to Business F1, Wolff is known to have leaked confidential information before. For instance, the magazine states that it was Wolff who leaked to the media in Singapore '22 that Red Bull Racing had exceeded the budget cap, something the Austrian team did not know at the same time. "This is a time bomb, waiting to off potentially even more serious than what happened in Singapore last year," said an anonymous team boss. ..."

If this all comes out as being true it'll be a really shitty thing for F1 and Mercedes to have been part of.

Hopefully we get a clear picture soon.

We can all recall when Toto told Sky that Red Bull was over the cap and everyone was puzzled as to where Toto was getting his info. There is certainly more than light smoke here.

So what are they meant to do?
Insist that Toto and Suzi get a divorce or do they Fire Suzi and face charges of unfair dismissal?
Sounds to me like Horner creating a smokescreen to discredit Wolf because he has something to hide.
I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if he hadn't exceeded the "Catering Budget" again having got away with it last time ;)

Yeh, MI5 have nothing on F1.

Is the FIA and F1 trying to kill off F1? Better weekend management is needed. Something like FP1 and FP2 on Friday, Sprint Quali and Sprint Race in Saturday, with Race Quali and Race on Sunday. Or do the race quali before the sprint race.

Or.. here’s an idea. Kill the whole sprint race thing. It’s stupid.

1) Horner is not even quoted in the article. There are 9 team principals who may have had their say on this conflict saga.

2) "Last time" was a clean audit, just like the 9 other teams. Please park the 2021 season, on an Abu Dhabi and catering level. Nothing's going to be changed. 50% were happy, 50% were not. It's done.

Are Merc guilty by association?

I would approach this from a different angle - Merc did definitely benefit financially from their sponsorship agreement. They therefore were benefiting from the proceeds of the FTX fraud. Just like buying a stolen car that will be confiscated once "caught out", they could be expected to return the "stolen"money...

The article made it fairly clear, through innuendoes, who it was talking about and as for my reply you really do need to ease up if you couldn't see the intended humor.

Believe me if I wanted to stir the **** I would not be so subtle so relax.

And here is another for Flash to get worked up about:

Masi could return, admits Ben Sulayem

NEWS STORY
01/12/2023
FIA president, Mohammed ben Sulayem has admitted that controversial race director Michael Masi could return.
The Australian was dropped as F1 race director in the wake of the controversial Abu Dhabi Grand Prix of 2021, blamed by many for one of the most controversial decisions in sporting history.
While the subsequent investigation didn't name him personally, instead opting for "human error", Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, Lewis Hamilton and millions of F1 fans did.
