The Magician
Just remember how cringe it was when Lando's race engineer told him to give the position back to Oscar, it was horrible and should never have happened. It cocked up Oscar's first win moment entirely.

A winner? it's the sort of pass that shows that you not a team player. He cost the team a 1-2 today. Other teams and drivers are going to take note of this. ATM, he is costing Lando a chance at the WDC.
I disagree with this. We are here to watch racing, not to look and confirm the drivers do as told by their race engineer all the time.
Oscar is a future WDC unlike Lando. He has the same attitude and pure racing instinct like all the previous greats. I don't see why this should be taken away from him.
This is true, but remember, the team also want to keep their best driver happy. It is as much in their favour to let the driver race as it is for the driver to race. That is the thing about F1 that sets it apart from any other sport. It is as much a team game as it is an individual game.
In 2016 they could both win the WC.Some Rosberg Vs Hamilton 2016 vibes going on at McLaren?
Nah, Lando is a WC. P17 to P5 Mexico City 2023 confirms it. And Oscar will have to learn to improve his quali times to beat Lando.Lando does not have the "mindset" like Max, Oscar, Lewis. He is a very good driver, but it seems he lacks the champion mentality. Oscar is getting better and better each race. The pressure from Oscar will be coming more and more each race.
Great example was Max in Miami last year. He absolutely destroyed Checo to make a point and Checo after that race went into the mid card driver you see today.
Lando needed to forget team orders in Hungary, do the alpha dog thing and pissed all over his territory and focused on winning this championship.
Max literally told RB in 2022 to never ask him to swap places with anyone. You win or you lose. Don't expect a team mate to give you the points.
Because he is 41 points ahead lol.piastri charles and norris all have a chance at the world title if max doesnt keep the positions he needs
so why is lando favoured
Sure, from an Oscar fan POV that’s great. From a Macca/Lando fan POV that’s not so great.Nah, happy to have them race. Lando left the gap and any driver would go for it.
I feel that way too. But it's what they did for Oscar the last time he got ahead after turn 1. The two positions for the team are secured, the driver who's ahead now gets preference and the second driver defends the positions.I disagree with this. When has McLaren ever picked a driver over another for the rest of a season? Mclarens front tyre deg was far greater than Ferrari - they were never going to pull off a 1 stop and even Lando acknowledged that. You're arguing over a maximum 2 pt difference.Sure, from an Oscar fan POV that’s great. From a Macca/Lando fan POV that’s not so great.

I’m guessing you’re also not prepared to put a grand on Max losing this WDC?
The whole Hungary thing was a mess but everyone forgets that if Oscar had've demanded first option (being in the lead) Lando pitting later than he did would've likely have had the same affect on Lando as it did on Oscar relegating Lando to a lower position and perhaps jeopardising the teams 1-2. That's why he "needs the team and Oscar". If Oscar is unwilling in the future as a result of not returning the benefit it'd be worse for Lando.I feel that way too. They need to maintain a consistent message or schit like this will keep happening. If the position is to race each other, then maintain that position too. But don't keep chopping and changing it every race...
Hard to say what would have happened if Charles in 3rd. Chasing them and trying to get passed might have added to his degradation, it could have affected their strategy based on what Mclaren were doing, there's a lot of ifs and buts...When has McLaren ever picked a driver over another for the rest of a season? Again I'm not disagreeing. But a team with two good drivers needs to plan for this and be consistent on their position. It's as confusing for the drivers as it is for all of us.The whole Hungary thing was a mess but everyone forgets that if Oscar had've demanded first option (being in the lead) Lando pitting later than he did would've likely have had the same affect on Lando as it did on Oscar relegating Lando to a lower position and perhaps jeopardising the teams 1-2. I don't think anyone at Mclaren including both drivers thought or think 1 stop was possible.Hard to say what would have happened if Charles in 3rd. We're assuming Ferrari would have stuck to a 1 stop regardless. If the 2 Mclarens opened up enough of a gap, it could have pressured them to change their strategy. A lot of things change during the course of a race...I don't think anyone at Mclaren including both drivers thought or think 1 stop was possible.
It's not confusing if we simply accept that McLaren is allowing their drivers to race. We should let it play out and leave the "what if's" be for after the season is done. I think both drivers are talented and are potential WC's but one is not letting himself be dragged into the drama and the other is entertaining it somewhat instead of focusing on his starts and his composure.Again I'm not disagreeing. Anyway my money's on Oscar is taking it next year. Just needs to sort out his quali. Guy is a future great...
