Red Bull has actually made Albon an offer: https://de.motorsport.com/f1/news/n...an-alexander-albon-red-bull-24020714/3402363/

"... Shortly after the excitement surrounding Lewis Hamilton's sensational transfer to Ferrari, Formula 1 journalist Peter Windsor caught people's attention with the next possible surprise from the transfer market. His claim: "As I understand it, Alex Albon has been offered a three-year contract by Red Bull, starting in 2025." ...

Now research by Motorsport-Total.com has revealed: Red Bull has actually made Albon an offer. However, this is not about a three-year contract that is ready to be signed in order to replace Sergio Perez from 2025 - rather, as a first step, Red Bull just wants to secure an option, a kind of right of first refusal, on Albon's services.

If Albon agrees to the offer, Red Bull could then decide whether they want to bring him back into the team for three years in 2026. Advantage: Red Bull would probably pay good money for the option. Disadvantage: Albon's freedom of action in the transfer market would be limited.

Specific question for Albon: James Vowles says you are under contract with Williams for 2025. In your opinion, does this mean you will drive for Williams in 2025 or do you have options to look elsewhere regardless of the contract?

Albon replies: "Let's see. Time will tell. But let's leave it at that: my focus is on 2024. The most important thing is that we make progress towards 2025. Realistically, I want to stay with Williams. If the team "If it's as good as I hope it is, then we have a long-term contract."

Can Albon get out of Williams contract?
This could mean: If Williams does not achieve certain performance criteria with the 2024 car by a deadline But as of now, this is pure speculation.

"I want to see how the FW46 feels in Bahrain, and then in the next four, five, six races after that, so I can get a feel for the progress we are making as a team. My full attention is on Williams. I am "It's important how quickly we develop. Then I see myself here in the long term." ..."

According to Motorsport Italy Mercedes have put non-poaching covenant in place which prevents Lewis Hamilton from taking engineers with him to Maranello. Including the likes of Peter Bonnington and Andrew Shovlin: https://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/f...ilton-non-puo-portare-via-ingegneri/10573618/

"... According to what Motorsport.com has learned, in the voluminous contract that Lewis signed with Mercedes last August there is a clause that protects the team on this front. In England it is called the "non-poaching clause", a note that is attached to managers' contracts to prevent an action aimed at inviting former colleagues to follow the same path in the event of termination of the relationship with the company, proposing employment in another workplace.

Mercedes has used the same approach with Hamilton, who is expressly prohibited by contact from even proposing to his current collaborators to follow him towards Maranello starting from 2025. ..."

Newey has already told Red Bull that he will remain loyal to the world champion team even without Horner: https://f1-insider.com/formel-1-horner-newey-red-bull-untersuchung-61618/

"... The close connection to technical mastermind Adrian Newey is unlikely to help Horner either. The two friends' contracts were once linked to one another. But according to information from F1-Insider.com, the bond of friendship has now broken. Newey has already told Red Bull that he will remain loyal to the world champion team even without Horner.

These are all developments that may have weakened Horner's position even in the event of an internal acquittal. There is even discussion about a successor. The most common name mentioned is that of team manager Jonathan Wheatley. At least temporarily, he could represent the team at the presentation of the new car on February 15th. ..."

It's extremely difficult to enforce especially with those who are on fixed term contracts where expiry coincides with opportunity or where Lewis is not actively involved in in hiring. Lewis's offer is not predicated on others moving with him so that's an additional factor. Imho if Lewis had to start his own F1 team that would be more enforceable than Lewis being employed by another team and the attrition which usually follows such moves.

I've been reading the same. Shades of what happened to Ferrari if true.

At the peak of their powers in the 2000s, Todt and di Montezemolo engaged in a power struggle. Di Montezemolo had come to resent the amount of influence Todt was starting to have within Ferrari following the F1 successes. This ultimately came to a head with Todt wanting to retain Michael as lead driver beyond 2006 and di Montezemolo wanting to go with Kimi. Di Montezemolo won and within two years Michael had retired, Ross Brawn went on sabbatical and Todt ultimately resigned, so beginning Ferrari's decline.

There was also an incident where di Montezemolo had arranged a meeting with an advertising agency to move Ferrari away from Philip Morris. When Todt found out he moved quickly to secure a $200 Million per annum deal with Philip Morris and sabotaged di Montezemolo's meeting by getting there first and asking the agency reps what they were doing there whilst telling them Ferrari had already signed with Philip Morris for another 5 years. When di Montezemolo got there the agency representatives told him that he had wasted their time and only subsequently did Ferrari renew with Philip Morris.

Todt shielded the Formula 1 operation from the crazy politics in Maranello. Hopefully Vasseur can do the same.

This season should just start already. Let's just move everybody now and be do e with it:

Hamilton --> Ferrari
Albon --> RBR
Vettel --> Merc
Sainz --> ...Williams or whatever
Horner --> well if ya can't stay, cheers mate /salute

Would be great to have Vettel back in F1
