Why is Ferrari a passion project and other teams aren't, who are we to decide what people's passions should be? What if his passion is turning a schitbox into a rocketship?
Ferrari is passion, has that not been said here enough?

also he has said that working with Ferrari and Working with Lewis Hamilton are his only regrets in his career, so taking a job at Ferrari would have ticked both boxes and been a passion project.

To be fair, it's not like Aston Martin is exactly lacking in the passion, heritage and history department, especially when it comes to motorsport. Granted, they're not on the same level as Ferrari, but I'd prefer to see the Aston Martin name on the grid over say a brand like Toyota, Marussia or HRT.

I think he (Newey) has made a good choice. He is evidently one for a challenge and I don't think he would've made this decision lightly.

So I guess Newey was at Ferrari for all the years the dominated and then he was at Merc for 8 years when they dominated.
I mean they were the two most dominating cars the last 2 decades and if he is so good, surely he must have been with them.

Newey is one person and in all those teams he had lots of peeps he was working with

I'd bet your favourite driver has a higher possibility of landing up at Aston than Merc or Ferrari should he leave RB so you better hope they build a dominant car.

Before you make silly comments like this, you should probably look at where Newey was at the times those teams dominated and perhaps also the reason those teams dominated.

Doesn't help that Merc's PU was overpowered compared to all the other brands so no one else really had any chance. Had nothing to do with aero, but the aero helped at least eventually.

As for the others, I am sure you can look it up and make a better comment than you did here.

In the live briefing he did mention that 2026 was a blank slate that he was wanting to work on, so I think you'll see his handiwork then rather than 2025.

I touched on this a few pages back.

He won't have anything to do with the 2025 car. He only starts work in Match of next year. The car would have already been conceived at that point. Maybe a few tweaks, but the sensible thing would be to ride out 2025 and then allow Newey to focus most of his attention on the 2026 car and the new regulations.

Nobody should be expecting anything special from AM next year. Maybe improving performance as the season wears on, but they likely won't be much stronger than they are this season.

THIS is a GEM of an interview.

Some interesting highlights.

* he emphasizes to not blindly believe in tools and simulations and also to prioritize driver feedback above cold measurements.

This sounds like exactly what happened when AN's departure was announced. I suspect Wache thought he could replace AN with the tools and that would just magically work on the car. In retrospect, this sounds like exactly what happened with Merc's W13 and they struggled for 2 years.

* Another interesting tidbit, he didn't want to speak about all the concepts of the RB19 because he believe most teams still didn't understand them yet, so didn't want to give it away.

That is very telling too. That was the 23 car and we almost in 25 now. Just insane how good he is with aero

That really was excellent.

The title is misleading, it was covered in less than a minute off a 90 minute interview.
The real meat is in the man's philosophy of life and engineering.

Very long but totally absorbing, at one point it almost became a Physics Lecture, but without the boring stuff.
Excellent insight into a phenomenal mind and an incredible man.

  • All 10 F1 Teams found in compliance for 2023.
  • 4 PU Manufacturers found in compliance for 2023, and Procedural Breaches identified for Alpine Racing SAS and Honda Racing Corporation (HRC).

so procedural breaches, but neither Honda nor Alpine exceeded the cost cap.
so a financial penalty will likely be the penalty and nothing more.

not entirely the same as when Aston and Red Bull had "procedural breaches" AND exceeded the cost cap and then magically had a car that far exceeded the rest of the field or jumped from 7th to second for the first half of the season.

True but the "procedural breaches" in this instance was probably for not having an adequate catering budget. ;)

more likely not filling in some weird document for a tax rebate in the UK for some component they have to buy from Red Bull Racing because its a standardised part

He also said Aston is the last private team....
And they're paying him R80k per hour lol
