Yellows and double yellows only apply to the sector they're waved in. So if you as a driver are past that area when they're first thrown, you carry on as per normal.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your question.

A couple of weeks ago, a double yellow flag meant all laps in progress were disregarded, I'm pretty sure.

Double yellow means cars must be prepared to come to a full stop.

If you don't lift in the sector after encountering the flags. Anyone past that wouldn't have seen any. Basically Max arrived under yellow at the corner and that sector was basically dead for him whether there was a red flag or not.
