I'm guessing there'll be some clarification coming in the next few days due to the public hyper-awareness. I'd bet G-force triggers, car damage, approaching traffic etc plays a role.
The question isn't about the shorter time, it's why the Stroll red took 50secs.

I can only imagine Bernie talking about his sprinkler system concept if this is what a wet qualifying could be like...

I am a Lewis Fan but I am a Fan of F1 first and foremost and have always supported Mclaren.
F1 first for me too. I support anyone who can beat whoever is winning all the time. Like when MS was winning all the time, I would support anyone else like Kimi. Kimi was my man back then like Charles is now.

Ok I just watched the onboard for Lance. First time for me but damn his race engineer never shuts up. Anyhow, the onboard shows Lance attempting & under instruction from his race engineer to try bring the car back. He's reversing, turning, reversing turning a few times which accounts for the Yellow, Double Yellow and at the Red flag he stops trying.

Great strategic qualifying by Leclerc.
First corner on the start with a wet track, would you want to start 1st or 2nd with Tsunoda in 3rd or rather 5th or 6 away from him.

It was a crumpled mess. No surprise
F1 should dictate a spare car per team be available at every race or at least a near complete. I'm not expecting a run back to the garage scenario of the past but with the money involved it boggles the mind.

They will then have to dictate the circumstances under which it can be used. And even then, everyone will find a way to abuse those rules. There's also the logistics and cost of transporting around an extra car for the whole year, for a "just in case". Just going to open up another can of worms...

All I'm saying is that if most of the car is available in components at the race anyway having a prebuilt chassis ready (less power components, wings etc which they transport already) as a rule wouldn't be that much of an ask considering the value of the sport. Treat it the same as any team building up a new car for a driver... all that changes is a stipulation that requires a partially complete car... and perhaps additional ~ 400kg in freight.
