The Manor Formula 1 team ‎has entered administration.

Administrators FRP Advisory were called in to the Banbury-based team by owner Stephen Fitzpatrick on Friday and admitted there is a "very limited window of opportunity" for a rescue deal to be struck in time for the new F1 season on March 26.

The administration process concerns the company which operates the F1 team, Just Racing Services Limited.

Eish, that's Rio Haryanto, Felipe Nasr and Esteban Gutierrez without seats. Have to feel for them after trying so hard to get into F1.

Wolff was offered F1 seat

According to Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, he rejected an offer to race in Formula 1 back in 1994 after he won the Nurburgring 24-hour race.

However, despite declining the offer, Wolff has still enjoyed a successful time in the sport as he one of the important figures behind the current success of Mercedes.

The Austrian admitted that he would not have had a fruitful career in Formula 1 but has no regrets over the career path he chose.

"After I won the Nurburgring 24-hour race in 1994 I got an offer to race in Formula 1," Wolff told F1i.

"At the time, one of my sponsors also happened to support Karl Wendlinger in F1, and when Karl was seriously injured in Monaco, that asked me if I would be interested in taking over his sport at Sauber.

"I was already fully aware however that I would not be successful in F1, and I was also a bit too tall and a bit too heavy!

"The odds were against me enjoying a good career in F1, or even elsewhere as a racing driver. I told them it would be a waste of money.

“That's when I decided not to pursue my dream of becoming a professional race driver. It was in May 1994."

Lowe departs Mercedes, joins Williams

According to reports, Mercedes executive director Paddy Lowe has left Mercedes to join Williams, which could speed up the process of Valtteri Bottas going the other way.

Lowe has been rumoured to leave the Silver Arrow garage for a number of months after joining the team back in 2013.

Over the last couple years, Lowe enjoyed a successful career at Mercedes as he worked alongside Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda to bring the team three World Championships.

Interestngly, Lowe actually started his career at Williams back in 1987, where spent six enjoyable years, including a Drivers’ World Championship for Nigel Mansell.

Former Ferrari tech boss James Allison is being lined-up as a replacement according to Sky Sports.

With Lowe joining the Grove-based outfit, Bottas officially replacing current World Champion Nico Rosberg edges closer.

Gutierrez to take on Formula E

Failing to gain a drive in Formula 1 after being let go by Haas, Esteban Gutierrez has decided to take up the opportunity to race in Formula E.

Gutierrez suffered a disappointing 2016 season with the American outfit, with his ex team-mate Romain Grosjean scoring all the points.

His poor form resulted in Haas opting for former Renault driver Kevin Magnussen, meaning that the Mexican would have to find a race seat elsewhere.

With Manor Racing on the brink of administration and all the other teams have the drivers' line-ups seemingly set, Gutierrez will try out the electric series for the time being until something opens up for him in Formula 1.

It is still not clear as to which outfit he will be racing for, but it is rumoured that he will be joining Jay Penske's Future Dragon Racing.

Really... he won a race and was invited to race in F1?
But kudos for him for realising it wasn't going to work. Most people would jump at that. Seems he made the right call IMO.

I bet he gets a better paycheck than most F1 drivers anyway ...

The early to mid-90s was the height of the infamous pay driver (Jean-Denis Deletraz anyone?). No doubt they saw a guy who could somewhat get a car around a track and had money/support.
 
Team principal Vasseur leaves Renault

Renault have announced that Frederic Vasseur is leaving his role as team principal with immediate effect.

After a first season spent relaunching and rebuilding its works F1 squad, Renault and Vasseur have agreed by mutual consent to part company as of today.

According to Renault, “both parties remain committed to maintaining the good working relationship they have enjoyed and expect this to take a new form sometime in the future.”

The team will provide full details of plans for their 2017 season when they present their new car next month on February 21.

In the meantime, the team will continue to be managed by Jerome Stoll, its President, and Cyril Abiteboul, its Managing Director.

Bed-ridden Schumacher loses two more sponsor

Munich - Two more sponsors have backed out of supporting embattled F1 legend Michael Schumacher.

That is the claim of Maquina do Esporte, a Portuguese-language sports marketing publication.

Three years since his skiing incident

It reports that at the three-year mark of seven time world champion Schumacher's disappearance from public life following a skiing crash, two more sponsors have now pulled out.

They are luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet, and German door manufacturer Hormann.

Maquina do Esporte claims that a line of Audemars Piguet watches in honour of Schumacher, 48, have even been withdrawn from the collection.

The two brands join Jet Set, Navyboot, Rosbacher and Erlinyou on the growing list of former Schumacher sponsors, while the report claims "others have negotiated a reduction" in the amount paid to the former Mercedes and Ferrari driver.

It means Schumacher's most loyal and main backer remains Deutsche Vermongensberatung, who is also strongly supporting his son Mick's climb to F1.

In late December 2016, details of the the seven-time Formula 1 champion's R230-million medical bill has emerged, according to the Daily Mail.
 
This was inevitable, sooner or later the well has to dry up.

Tough decision, to pull the plug now and cut your losses having obviously tried very hard, or continue until zero and then have no choice but to pull it.
 
He seems to be a big fan so that helps - hopefully not all about the money.
