F1 - General discussion and 2017

Ugh, I hope the Ferraris have decent race pace, otherwise it's going to be another procession. Really wasn't expecting that gulf between the Mercs and the rest though.
I'm pretty sure I heard them say Vettel is using last years power unit, after an engine change , which if so, is probably the reason for his lack of pace. I hope Kimi can do something, maybe jump the Mercs or get ahead of Bottas at the start.

Okay I didn't hear wrong

Sebastian Vettel: "The result is ok, but obviously I am not entirely happy and this qualifying didn't help. I don't have excuses, I could have done better. I think I had the rhythm at the end but just didn't get everything right. We were not quick enough, but tomorrow I think we still have a good chance. The car has been fast during the races and that was the case yesterday too, on the long-runs. So, let's see what happens. The start of my qualifying session was a bit slow, then by Q2 I think I had the car under control. But my Q3 was not ideal. I had to stop at the end of the pit-lane when the red flag came out and my tires got cold. Tomorrow, anyway, it could be a different story."

He says nothing about any PU change.
Not sure I trust twitter as a news feed - But then I dont trust any F1 journalists for news either :)

Scouring the net for info it looks like he did do a PU change:
"Vettel’s performance came after he completed only limited running in the final practice session after a hydraulic leak, which necessitated an engine change prior to Q1."

But I can find no references to "Last Year" just an earlier PU. So I conclude that he did have a PU change but it is a used 2017 PU.

"Sebastian Vettel needed an earlier power unit fitted before qualifying, the ICE and MGU-K were used for the first four race weekends of this season and may well have been used for Friday practice sessions in other races, so it could be stretching the life of this unit."

Okay like i said, I switched over when I heard them talk about the change, but maybe I mis heard them say earlier unit and thought they meant last seasons. I was under the impression it was last seasons when I saw the gap between him and Lewis. I'm surprised then that he was that slow

I think with the Tire temperature problems they all had he had probably failed to do a banker run and had just got his tires up to temperature for a flying lap when Ricciardo's red flag cut it short.
He certainly appears to be blaming himself and not the team or car.

I would second what caroper says, there's no way he would be allowed to use an engine from last year as it's not part of his allocation. He would get the same penalty as he would for using a brand new additional unit.

Has there been much overtaking in the F2 race?

That race yes :) It was all out, overtaking through the field.
LeClerc from 8th to 1st, nato similar.
The guys had no sense of fear :)

P.s. it was a reverse grid race.

I'm streaming on Supersport but in the link to the channel to the GP they are only showing women's cricket. On what SS channel is the Grand Prix?

If anyone saw the MotoGP now, then be prepared for a massive anti-climax. Two wheels showing 4 how its done.
