F1 - General discussion and 2017

Red Flag - All the cars are shown as being back in the pit lane, so it's not entirely clear what is causing the delay.

Ah, but it seems Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull stopped at Turn Four.


Not the ideal end to the opening hour then for Red Bull, with Ricciardo having not long headed back onto the circuit to post the team's first lap times of the winter.

We await news on what caused the stoppage.

Green flag...with Vettel, Bottas and Hulkenberg straight back out.

Ricciardo has been dropped back to the Red Bull garage, we now await the return of the car to the pit lane.

Only one lap apiece for McLaren and Haas so far this morning, despite both teams completing filming days here at Barcelona over the weekend.

Vettel, meantime, is the first to 15 laps for 2017, with Mercedes and Bottas just a couple behind.

Redbull reports that A sensor issue causes @danielricciardo to stop on track.

New year, same old problems for McLaren? Well, it's actually the Honda engine which is currently the guilty party in keeping the MCL32 in the garage. No official word yet from the team either, which is perhaps rather concerning too. How big a problem might this be? They've already missed out on 90 minutes of action and the shutters remain firmly shut at their garage
 
Just 0.190 seconds separate Mercedes and Ferrari at the top of the charts as Bottas replaces Vettel at the summit with a lap of 1:23.370.

Meanwhile, Sergio Perez is above Williams and into third for our nascent pecking order
 
FERRARI TEASING
Vettel did set a 'purple' middle sector but backed off in the other two sectors.
Ericsson sets his first time of the day with a 1:29.527.
Hukenberg's run finally ends, he's now up to 17 laps for the day.
 
It's looking like a number of hours in the garage for Fernando Alonso while McLaren get to the bottom of an oil leak issue.

While it might seem very early in pre-season testing, the fact there's now only eight days of winter running before Melbourne means lengthy unscheduled spells in the garage are as costly as they've ever been.

The kind of start McLaren, after what appeared to have appeared a decent filming day yesterday, could really have done without.

It's not good news for McLaren-Honda to be sat in the garage chasing some kind of oil system problem. The engines coming to this test should all be test-bench run and where the engine connects up to the system of the car should be bulletproof. Using the excuse that this is testing and things will go wrong is rubbish because you only have eight days and you need to hit the ground running. Losing a big part of a day is time you will never recover, and by the time the McLaren runs again, most of its rivals will have built up a lot of mileage. We've seen a lot of finger problems for McLaren and Honda during the past few years, and maybe this is the same again. Not a good start to testing.

THE HAAS PULLS UP
Kevin Magnussen pulls to one side at the end of the pit lane as the mechanics go to wheel him back to the garage.
We're unsure what the problem is, but the track remains green as the Dane is out of harms way.
 
So a bit of a (possibly) silly question, but do race rules apply during off season testing? Things like speeding in the pit-lane, blocking or slowing a driver on a hotlap, unsafe release etc?

Not an official answer, just my speculation, but if it is a safety issue, as in the points you questioned, then I would think yes.
 
No reasons from HAAS but they have just sent this:

The four-time champion is the only driver on the track at the moment.
