F1 - General discussion and 2017

Lewis Hamilton makes his first appearance on track in 2017. He's taken over the Mercedes from Bottas after the Finn clocked 79 laps this morning. Let's see how many the three-time world champion can add to that already eye-watering total.

And the W08 has sprung a shark fin!

MASSA GOES SECOND!
Felipe Massa jumps ahead of Valtteri Bottas to go into second place behind the Ferrari.
A 1:23.025 is just one quarter of a second off the pace.
He is on the soft compound tyre, compared to Ferrari's medium-tyre run.
 
Just shy of 20 laps for the afternoon already and Lewis Hamilton now moves into fourth place with a time of 1:23.398. Within 0.3s of new team-mate Bottas, giving Mercedes a timesheet three-four at the moment.

Mercedes are also now on their 100th lap of the opening day!

But it's Felipe Massa who jumps from second to first on the timesheet with a new quickest lap of the day of 1:22.727 - which is several tenths faster than we saw at Barcelona testing at any point last winter.
 
t's just not getting any easier for McLaren. Or Honda.

Eric Boullier, the team boss, has just held what can only be described as an uncomfortable media summit as he addressed the team's failure to set a single timed lap so far.

The word from McLaren is that they are waiting for the results of Honda's investigation into the 'oil system' issue which has prevented Fernando Alonso recording anything more than a meaningless installation lap so far.

Boullier described the failure as "surprising", "disappointing" and "unexpected".

"We have to wait for Honda to give us an answer," he declared.

But the bottom line is that Alonso is still in the garage, waiting and waiting - and perhaps wondering...
 
I know it's early days, but imagine Massa wins the world title. He'll probably stick around until he's 50 then! :D

Massa had already beaten the fastest testing time from last year, but this latest time now means he's now gone two tenths faster than the fastest lap set from last year's pre-season testing!
He's the only man on the circuit currently.

Well I see thay managed to fit in another 28 laps after I was called away.
Maybe I shouldn't watch this morning just in case I am the course :wtf:
I did go to the website to see if there was a resign button for the fan club page but I guess once they have you in their marketing database you have joined for life.

Green Flag - Here we go - the track is open for day two.


Raikkonen and F1 rookie Stroll are the first cars to head out. Giovinazzi - filling in for Wehrlein at Sauber - joins them, as does Haas newcomer Grosjean.
 
Interested to see how young Lance Stroll goes. Doubt it'll be a walk in the park for him... :whistle:
