F1 - General discussion and 2017

Undoubtedly a slightly quieter start to today's session, which might be partly because of the cooler temperatures compared to yesterday. Track temperatures are barely over 15 degrees at the moment.

The teams who already have a decent amount of running under their belt will also be starting to make the first set-up changes to their cars and trying different settings.

Others, such as McLaren, Force India and Renault, just need some more laps on the board at the moment.

Verstappen is back in the pits, and we have an empty circuit once again.

STOFFEL SETS A TIME
There's a time on the board for McLaren.
Vandoorne clocks a 1:27.564 to go fifth.

Vandoorne is back out in the McLaren along with the Ferrari of Raikkonen. Hamilton thunders on. He's just been timed at 283kmh along the straight. Raikkonen follows along and is captured at 282. Vandoorne's fastest top speed so far today is 266...no, wait, make that 276...

Details, details. And you can be sure that the teams are pouring over every small detail...

Force India has been carrying out work to resolve an exhaust issue, but Ocon is expected to hit the track shortly.

OCON MAKES FIRST APPEARANCE
Esteban Ocon is finally out of the pits and on his installation lap.

TWO HOURS COMPLETED
Hamilton is the fastest and has completed the most laps. It's been a very strong start for Mercedes, they're well on course for another 100-lap day!

The forum is discriminating against your pics again ;)

Yes, I noticed that myself today, a couple were missing when I reloaded the thread.
I have no idea why it happens and just reattaching the same attachment only fixes it for a while.

If you click the link do you see the image?
That works for me but is not the intended behaviour.

P5 FOR OCON
The rookie wastes no time in climbing up the timing sheets.
His first flying lap is a 1:26.091 and he slots in between Lance Stroll and Daniil Kvyat
P4 FOR OCON
Another big leap in lap time for the Frenchman!
On only his fourth lap he moves up to fourth place with a 1:24.488.
He's only just slower than Verstappen at the moment, but he's equipped with the faster soft-compound tyre.
OCON PITS
Six laps completed for Ocon as he pits. Kvyat is the only man on track.
Sauber and Giovinazzi have been quiet for a while. They still only have two laps to their name.

Times update:

1 Hamilton (Mercedes) 1m21.766s
2 Raikkonen (Ferrari) 1m23.359s
3 Verstappen (Red Bull) 1m24.366s
4 Ocon (Force India) 1m24.488s
5 Stroll (Williams) 1m26.040s
6 Kvyat (Toro Rosso) 1m26.161s
7 Vandoorne (McLaren) 1m26.204s

Magnussen, Giovinazzi and Palmer all yet to set times.

No, just opens the invalid attachment page.

No, just opens the invalid attachment page.

Stranger still, we are not seeing the same symptom. I think it is the way MyBB is serving pages, or failing to do so, dependent on load/traffic/ISP.

The two I redid on the last page, the Image of stoffel and the Time sheet are both visible to me again.

THE SUNS COMING OUT...
It's been a rather cloudy start to the day here in Barcelona.
The air temperature is roughly the same as yesterday, but track temperatures haven't been quite as high.
The sun is now shining so the track might warm up enough to encourage the teams back onto the track.

Kevin Magnussen leaves the pits for the first time in a while.
He's only managed five laps in the Haas so far today.

Magnussen's first time of the day is a 1m25.691s, which puts him fifth fastest. That was using the medium tyre.

Things are starting to pick up nicely again now out on track.

Kimi Raikkonen returns and consolidates his second place on the timesheet, posting a new personal best time of 1:22.831 on medium tyres. Kevin Magnussen also improves in the Haas to 1:25.138, while Stoffel Vandoorne is up to 25 laps for McLaren.

Sauber F1 Team ✔ @SauberF1Team
We are currently having issues with the power unit – the engine needs to be changed. Back on track soon! #F1Testing

Only two laps so far today for Sauber stand-in Antonio Giovinazzi, with no time set

A blustery wind is assaulting the circuit this morning, putting a chill in the air and making the cars, even to the naked eye, a real handful.

For Mercedes, though, it's business as usual with Hamilton closing in on his half century of laps.

But at the other end of the field, problems continue at Sauber with the team yet to set a timed lap and forced into a full engine change - despite, of course, running a year-old Ferrari engine.

As for McLaren, there's a flicker of progress but not much more than that. Vandoorne may have 29 laps on the board but the MCL32 has yet to to reach double figures for a single stint and the Belgian youngster is languishing some four seconds off the pace.
