F1 - General discussion and 2017

More problems at McLaren, here's the latest from Honda: "We lost power to the power unit. At the moment we don't know what has caused the issue. We are currently changing the power unit in order to investigate fully and identify the cause. We will update you when we have further information."

So that's engine woes at McLaren and Sauber this morning, while Renault is still yet to appear having told us it has spent the morning fitting new parts that arrived overnight.

RED FLAG!
Esteban Ocon has stopped at turn ten.

OCON GETS OUT OF THE CAR
The Force India driver appears to have pulled over with a technical problem.
He gets out of the car and the marshals begin the recovery process.

EARLY LUNCH?
They're lifting the car onto the flatbed truck now, but will there be time for teams to run before the lunch break? There are seven minutes to go...

WAIT A SEC...
The session has been extended by five minutes!
Magnussen and Hamilton head out for a final run.

WELCOME JOLYON PALMER
The Briton makes his first appearance of the test for Renault!
Giovinazzi makes an appearance for Sauber, too.
Both will have their fingers crossed that their respective technical problems are now fixed.

CHEQUERED FLAG!
We're sure of it this time.
Magnussen makes a late improvement to go fourth with a 1:23.207, narrowly ahead of Verstappen.

Either way, times are nothing to go by. Too early to tell who is faster. objectives of testing won't be lap times, but rather to collect data.

Image doesn't work...

MyBB has been having an intermittent issue with images the past 2 days, hence posting the text version above it.
I see all the images but not every one else so I will refrain from posting image files for now, it is not worth the effort.

Upload to Imgur...

Not sure it would help.
yesterday I was linking to files on getty images, sky uk or google images, and was having the same problem.
uploading locally solved that, but today even local uploads are failing.

Lunchtime round-up

Lewis Hamilton sets fastest time of 2017 testing so far - and fastest Barcelona lap in V6 hybrid era
Spin for debutants Lance Stroll and Antonio Giovinazzi, while Force India's Esteban Ocon stops on track
Ferrari continue to run second to Mercedes on timesheet
Renault only complete late installation lap with Jolyon Palmer

Williams have just announced they won't be running again today.
Confirmation that due to a lack of spare parts, Stroll's first day of pre-season testing for Williams ends prematurely.

GREEN FLAG!
We're back underway here in Barcelona.

Over at Mercedes and it's a scheduled end to Lewis Hamilton's day with the Briton and new team-mate Valtteri Bottas running half days apiece through the fortnight of testing.

Sixty-six laps - the equivalent of a Spanish GP distance - and a new fastest time, not bad for a half-day's work, eh?

GIOVINAZZI HITS THE TRACK
Antonio Giovinazzi is the first back out on track after missing out on a lot of running this morning.

Oh dear Sauber - the red flag is out before Giovinazzi completes his outlap.

Giovinazzi seemed to hit some problems immediately but has got back to the pits on his own accord.
We're green again!

PALMER SETS HIS FIRST TIME
The Renault sets its first timed lap of the day, and it's a 1:27.712 which places him ninth.
