Hi
One of my clients is concerned that his teenage son is up to no good, been hanging out and talking to strange individuals and has been very secretive about his dealings n Face book. Is there a way to monitor his face book or get the password with a keyloger? Can somebody recommend one I don’t want to just download anything and get my own PC hacked in the process.
Thanks

what you want to do or recommend is illegal. your client should do what a proper parent would do and sort things out normally.

Exactly. The parent could even create their own Facebook profile and keep tabs in that way (see who the friends are, etc.).

Keyloggers are a big no-no. Not even my parents would have been this paranoid. If you raised your kid well enough you wouldn't need to invade their privacy and destroy their trust, just my 2cents.

If he finds out, big trouble, sort of like when you see parents read diaries in the movies.

Kaufies, I am in IT for the rest of those who think it is a no no. I was a drug addict for 12 years, been clean now for 2years. My parents did not have a clue. So if a parent wants to find out what his kid is doing I have no problem helping him. For all those critics out there, How many friends have you lost to an over dose of drugs? How many of your friends have been shot like dogs because they could not pay? How many of your friends were sold as sex slaves?
So before you speak, think. Kids are dealing drugs from the age of 13, we live in a sick world so if Daddy wants to keep his children safe I am only glad to assist

Some might consider it unethical but, assuming the child is under the age of majority and living under the parent's roof, what's illegal about it? Parents have been reading their kids diaries/journals since forever. Sometimes as a parent you have to make the tough calls just to ensure your kids well-being . . . even if they end up hating you for it.

I presume they are all on the same IP range at home >?
If they are, dad can install Cain and Abel. on his own machine, this app can log a number of packets and 'intercept' passwords provided connected long enough, so there is a bit of waiting to do.
Once enough has been captured, you can either look through the list of decrypted passwords, or you can bruteforce / rainbowcrack the hash values stored.
In all honesty though, this is a DAD - so he has some authority over a kid ?

If they're still minors then perhaps. I still think that spying will lead to a poisoned sense of trust in future.

Sounds as if the kid has already breached the sense of trust !

Parents shouldn't be paranoid, but sometimes you have to make sure that things are going OK.

Is it any different to parents tapping other parents, or the neighborhood grapevine in order to find out if things are going wrong ?

Just take the kid for a surprise drug test instead of digging through his stuff?

Does the kid use Firefox?

Check whether Firefox is set to remember facebook's password.

Should my kids go on the Internet, of course I will be watching what they're doing - too many perverts and sick people out there, it's not a safe place anymore. It's called parental supervision, and every parent have the right, nay, must supervise their children in all activities until such time the parent deem the child to be experienced enough to deal with certain... situations.

Pray that your child(ren) never fall prey to a paedophile, or get sold into sexual slavery (yes, it's still alive).

Besides, should your child happen to visit unsavoury (porn) sites, you might get slapped with a fine (or lawsuit) for allowing your child to do so.

A company have the right to monitor use of its resources, this include internet (browsing as well as email) to ensure the employees does not abuse the internet.
