Received this unit from Takealot on 23rd May. It is configured as an Access Point, being connected to the main router with a LAN cable 22 metres long, since the wifi signal from the router will not stretch to the point I wanted to use a range extender. I checked the cable/connections with a LAN cable tester and all 8 lights came on in the correct sequence

It stopped working in early September, quoting "No cable connected". I again checked the cable and then defaulted the device (held in the button for 15 seconds) and it worked. Since then, it has stopped working on 5 occasions, the uptime between each failure becoming shorter and shorter. It failed on 2nd Nov and again on 4th Nov

It was returned to TaL. They say they have tested it and it is 100%, but the lady does not know what test was done and who did it. I collected it on 9th November and set it up but it stopped working again today (11th November) with the same message. I tested the cable again a short while ago and it is 100%

Emails to ASUS do not get answered

Any suggestions please?

There is no solution, this equipment is dying. Maybe in future use other brand. Asus has poor presence in South Africa.

Yet when I enquired earlier in the year about the best device to get for use as an access point, many responders said that this ASUS product was by far the best one to use

In the meantime I got an Apple Airport and this works 100%

I found that the device got so hot that the slots at the top started bending outward. Anyway, I prevailed on TakeaLot to take it back and they have given me a credit, so that episode is over.

While it worked, it was very good. Pity this didn't last more than 5 months though. I have several ASUS products and the rest of them are fine
