fakeuncapped account - 512k

days elapsed to threshold status - 11 days

total MB's downloaded - 47,324.49 MB
...

per gamCo's speed test [does not time out with the threshold]
Your current bandwidth reading is:
83.30kbps
which means you can download at 10.41 KB/sec. from our servers....

threshold described on openweb's site :
"...the connection speed will be limited to half the half the account speed"

does some one in openweb or IS need a calculator ?

as per actual speeds to line speed ?

512k = 50Kbps
50Kbps / 2 = 25Kbps and not 10.41 KB/sec.

speedtest.net's result:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/183756608.png
which translates to 14.37 KB/sec

...can't do an international test times out ;)

must say this service just rocks @ 10.41 KB/sec to 14.37 KB/sec- very true to its name
Uncapped Express, R1369 what a bargain :]

all in all i wonder when i am actually going to get 25KBps or 50Kbps again - according to IS's cooldown period which also just per accident isn't specified on the isp's sites. must be a secret along with all the other secret stuff like what exactly is and is not shaped...

my advice : don't waste your money on this product. - rather get business or go with an isp that doesn't implement a soft capped and limited uncapped service.

lol. I knew this thats why I didn't buy the package. Its called a rolling threshold.
Complain about the half speed thing thou

When will you get 50kb/s again? If the monthly threshold is 30gb and you've downloaded 46gb then I'm thinking not this month.

What if you max out the connection 24/7 for the rest of the month and then get and extra prepaid for surfing at a decent speed? If it's maxed out (@14KB/s lol) then you should still be able to d/l a gig a day.

Admittedly it would be kinda sad to surf on prepaid while paying R1300pm.

i'm quit sure the bafoons who set up the threshold scripts have something it like this

private void CheckUserLimits(int currentUserID)
{
if(userUsage > RolingDayLimit)
HalfSpeed(currentUserID);

if(userUsage > MonthLimit)
HalfSpeed(currentUserID);

}

not strange that i am getting around to exactly 512k / 4 and not 512k /2

was wondering if they implement the thresholds correctly.....

...but then again don't the ad read : "if usage > day roling : HALF" and again "if usage > month month : HALF" ;)

I see what you mean... My C# not too lekker, but lets try work this out for them:

private void CheckUserLimits(int currentUserID)
{
if(userUsage > RolingDayLimit)
HalfSpeed(currentUserID);

elseif(userUsage > MonthLimit)
HalfSpeed(currentUserID);

}

How did I do?

That is Java, Unless C# looks exactly the same - I would not know, have never worked with C#.

Necuno, you stole one of my terms, your sly Necuno you. :eek: The term "FakeUncapped" belongs to me!! :p :D

I got an IS uncapped one where you get 10 gigs at full speed (1024) then throttled to 512 over a 10 day rolling period its not so bad after 5 days I'm on 512 for 5 days then back up to 1024.

update:
mr beep did query IS and telkom - ill see if i have half speed when i get home and not quartered speeds from 512k....

Apparently this threshold crap started in July or August, but I only started experiencing the threshold thing today.

I was so pissed off. What am I paying R1389 to OpenWeb for an uncapped account!! HELLO!!!! Do you know what uncapped means!!! BS!!

I know this whole thing doesn't have anything to do with OpenWeb, but rather the bastard company IS. Does IS decide to change their mind every few months. If you offer uncapped, offer it properly, none of this threshold nonsense.

I also find when I'm on the threshold that some pages don't load properly. They either take too long to load or they just don't load at all. Plus I get disconnected from MSN alot while I'm on the threshold. And this is with nothing else running in the background. No P2P or anything. I'm telling you, this threshold thing is huge BS in IS's face.

Strange though....if I reboot or disconnect my router, I get full speed again. But that only lasts for an hour or so, before it gets thresholded again. Guess while I'm surfing, I'll have to reconnect every hour.

I spoke to someone at OpenWeb and they said for any extra R200 per month I can get their "TRUE BUSINESS" uncapped service, but it comes with a router and I have to sign up a 12 month contract. Frak, I'd pay OpenWeb an extra R200, but I don't want a router or a contract.

IS, a bunch of motherfrakkers!!

lol @ frakkers....

...this sums it up nicely:
I've got one of Openwebs uncapped accounts and the best I've got out of it for the past few days is 22kb/s - is this some kind of pathetic joke? :confused:

"true business uncapped" isn't a good solution because you are not allowed to access the router at all - which leaves you with nice 'uncapped' but no unshaped options with it. I'm going fiber plus uncapped 384K for R1214.10 p/m - see how that turns out.

can always hop over to wtf @ uncapped express acounts. and fill in an asasa form...

DAMN!!! I never thought of that!! Do they lock you out of the router completely? You can't access port forwarding options and nothing like that?

Well then that won't be an option for me either....SHYTE!!!!

all speeds back to normal... for now ;)

1 up for mr beep's efforts

Why would you need port forwarding if you have a static ip :D

well a tip that will prob get the loophole closed, but they take half an hour to determine if they should cap your speed or not, just reconnect every 30 mins and you have 400k on 4mb line. As an aside speeds during the day they are bad no matter what you do generally 5-10k , but at night with said tip you can make up for their bad speeds. also interesting to note that we can get good speeds which menas theres nothing wrong with their netowork etc its just that they set lower limits than what they promise you (its the proudly south african thing to do)

-> we have the 384k one btw

This stupid threshold system made me cancel uncapped, back to SAIX shaped now, much faster anyway. :)

Does Openweb offer a service to show how much you downloaded every month on your "FAKE Uncapped" account without having to install some software on your pc? Would love to know what i average nowerdays!

/me waits for "ultra-spiffy business uncapped" for R200 extra, followed by "uber-elite business uncapped" for R200 extra, followed by "omg you wont believe this is so good business uncapped" for R200 extra, ....

as to the port forward question etc, just put a decent router box on one of the static ips and off ye go.
